Here we are in 2017, but this blog post begins with a Sci Fi event that took place back in 1971, an event that was linked to this year. Back in 1971, "
L.A. 2017" was a dystopian television show directed by a young Steven Spielberg.

In 1971, the
EPA was just beginning its efforts to deal with environmental pollution. A drive through any city in the USA would immerse you in a poisonous cloud and leave your eyes stinging.
I've never seen "L.A. 2017", but it is set in a future L.A. where people have to live underground because the outside air is terribly polluted.

"L.A. 2017" was written by Philip Wylie. In this blog, I've previously mentioned Wylie's 1930 story "
Gladiator".
Two other events in 1971 are worth mentioning here. Wylie died in 1971 at age 69. Also, in 1971 I discovered a copy of
The Gods Themselves by Isaac Asimov. That constituted my discovery that
science fiction existed as a written literary genre.

I like to imagine that in another
Reality, the world of science fiction went in another direction. What if 1982 brought us a
sequel to
Close Encounters of the Third Kind and
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial never existed.
In the
Asimov Reality, the very young Anne Spielberg is abducted by aliens; thus begins Steven's obsession with aliens. After a few years, she returns from 2017 with tales of a post-nuclear war L. A.
In the Asimov Reality, the people of Earth are provided with advanced scientific knowledge by aliens. Provided with access to some
hierion-based nanotechnology and a simple
sedron-powered faster-than light spaceship drive, Earthlings are able to spread outward among the stars.

Truce
Under the terms of the
Trysta Truce, providing the primitive humans of Earth with access to advanced technology was a temporarily acceptable violation of the
Rules of Intervention. The
pek allow the Asimov Reality to be used for the creation of new human variants that are able to use the
Bimanoid Interface. The critical gene combinations that allow humans to use the Bimanoid Interface are slipped into the next Reality in Earth's
Reality Chain (the Ekcolir Reality).

Ekcolir Reality
In the
Ekcolir Reality, some members of the
Writers Block tell stories of how sedron-based technology allowed for use of "
nuclear intensifiers" on Earth. Those tales were based on information about the Asimov Reality that was transferred into the Ekcolir Reality.
However, in the Ekcolir Reality, the people of Earth had a new set of problems: global warming and catastrophic sea level rise.
Pact
In the Ekcolir Reality, a negotiated end to the
Time Travel War was finally achieved: the
Trysta-Grean Pact. This was made possible by the
Ek'col, one of the special human variants that was designed and crafted during the Asimov Reality.
Trysta and
Ekcolir brought into existence the
Buld Reality, a Reality where
Temporal Momentum impelled people such as Steven Spielberg to tell tales of alien visitors to Earth, however, under a strict implementation of the Rules of Intervention, no physical evidence for the existence of aliens was allowed to be retained by Earthlings in this new Reality.
A few minor corrections to the timeline changed the Buld Reality to the
Final Reality and then the
dimensional structure of the universe was shifted, making any further time travel impossible.
Much of what we know about the nature of the nuclear war in the Asimov Reality comes from the stories of
Roberta Moore that were published in the Ekcolir Reality. Sadly, we only have sketchy accounts of the stories that were crafted by those who worked for the Writer's Block.
Yōd's replicoid continues to relay to Earth accounts of the stories that still exist within the archives of the
Hierion Domain.
