Below on this page is Part 9 of the science fiction story "Telepaths of Site Q". In Part 8, Irhit the tryp'At meets Riea, Yenti's hermaphroditic lover, and he soon realizes that she is a powerful telepath.

Like many Asterothropes from siteq, Riea is very interested in the genetics of telepathy. She explains to Irhit that ever since the first attempt to craft human telepaths, far back in Deep Time, there had been a known link between genes that made human hermaphrodites possible and the genes that allowed for human telepathy. 

Riea mentions that in the legends of siteq, Hedy Wolcat was born on Earth as a pair of twins. Hedy was brought to Observer Base 15 years previously, but Irhit knows that he must now investigate Hedy's sister, Susan and the mystery of why Hedy and Susan were planted on Earth and grew up in Merrill, the next town over from Mars, Iowa, which was Irhit's childhood home.

Irhit was slowly emerging from an unusual state of consciousness that he had attained while making love to Yenti. Riea was there in a shared mind space with Yenti, Irhit and Wysy, but Yenti was asleep with her arms cuddling Wysy and Riea was idly playing with Irhit's stiff erection. Now under the influence of pheromones coming from both Riea and Yenti, there was no chance that Irhit's penis would soften any time soon. As he regained his ability to think, Irhit speculated on the possibility that he might be able to fit his erection into Riea's little nhezaurish. Now Riea could see in his mind how Irhit had recently investigated Hedy Wolcat. She told him: Hedy was about to publish a journal article about the H chromosome when she was teleported off of Earth.

At siteq, the H chromosome is known for the Hedyplex, an array of genes that both make it possible for testes and ovaries to co-exist in a single body and for establishing neural networks that link to a person's endosymbiont, allowing for the kind of telepathic link we now share. You are the only non-hermaphrodite who I've ever been able to have a telepathic conversation with.

However, Betty also carried an over-night bag. She told her mother, "Don't wait up for me." She hugged Sara and over Betty's shoulder, Sara glared unhappily at Irhit. Then Betty and Irhit were quickly out the door and on there way to Irhit's house. Betty was a bit drunk and had difficulty walking straight. Betty suggested, "We could go dancing first."

Irhit agreed but reminded her, "We're on a mission... to help you avoid the remedial sex education class."

Irhit had not spoke to Betty about either of those topics. His parents had warned Irhit and Cellebelle that while sibling sex was an integral part of tryp'At culture, most of the rest of Earth frowned upon the practice. Feeling defensive, he could not resist asking about what he had seen in her mind, "Well, what about you and Lany?"

There was no way that Betty could explain that. First of all, Betty herself did not understand it. All she knew was that when Lany was happy, she was happy. And it was the same way with Catski and also Irhit. "You've never believed me, but when I give you oral sex, I get as much pleasure as you experience. It is like that with me and Lany, too."

"I've never had sex with Lany."

"But-"

"Don't jump to assumptions, Irhit." She rolled over and got off the bed and began dressing.

"I'm going home."

"Stay. We'll try again." The truth was, Catski and Irhit had made love once. It was through Catski that Irhit had met and befriended Betty. Now Irhit worried about the sexual gossip that was a major form of entertainment for many residents at Observer Base. Would he be labeled as an incompetent lover who only made love to women once before they left him? As far as he knew, Catski had never told anyone except Mrs. Tapsey about her sexual encounter with Irhit, but now Betty apparently had seen that in his mind. Would Betty gossip?

Grean remained hidden and watching Irhit's mind even after Betty stormed off into the soft glowing night of Observer Base. With one last glimpse into Irhit's stunned and confused thoughts, Grean activated the return sequence and was sent back to her workshop and back to the future from which she had initiated this little time travel mission. Grean now understood why Irhit and Betty had broken up after their first time having vaginal sex. Betty worried that with continued exposure to Irhit during sex, their telepathic connection might strengthen and she did not want him to know exactly how hypocritical she was in her views about his sexplay with Cellebelle. Irhit was also not eager to risk a closer telepathic connection with Betty that might reveal to her his identity as a tryp'At agent. As for Grean, she was now intent on much more closely investigating Irhit's family on Earth.

Several hours after dropping into a wild orgasm trance, Irhit awoke to normal consciousness and found himself in a tangle of limbs of assorted dimensions belonging to Yenti, Riea and Wysy. Again, Riea was there, prowling through Irhit's memories. He could tell that she was thinking about Mars. Riea told Irhit: According to legend, Hedy grew up in Merrill, a colony on Mars.

Irhit could telepathically sense how confused Riea was. Yes, I see. 

Riea continued: I'm trying to make sense of a bit of siteq legend. In our myths of the origin time, Susan went to Mars and obtained alien telepathic gene sequences. However, that makes no sense because the planet Mars never actually had any telepaths.

Irhit knew that it made sense if the siteq legend referred to Mars, Iowa. Now he was worried that Susan may have visited Mars and obtained genes from the small tryp'At colony living there in the seclusion of that small town. Irhit was late for his shift in the fishbowl. Over the protests of both Yenti and Riea he dressed and went off to work.

After rushing through his assigned Observations, he returned to his personal project, investigation the life of Hedy Wolcat on Earth. Now he traced back into the decades old records of Earth's history and found Hedy's sister, Susan. 

Irhit watched with growing uneasiness as Susan first moved to Mars and then befriended his parents. This was at a time when Irhit was only about a year old. As a family friend, Susan was asked to occasionally baby sit Irhit and his sister, Belle. Irhit had no memory of Susan, only a vague memory of various babysitters who all blurred together in his mind. 

After he was five or six years old, there were no more baby sitters and he was expected to take care of his younger sister when his parents were both away from home. Irhit watched in surprise as he now witnessed recorded data for several of the occasions when Susan was baby sitting and he and Belle complained about not being tired and ready for bed at their regular bed time. 

On those occasions, Susan had let Belle climb into Irhit's bed. Then while Irhit and Belle engaged in their childish game of 'doctor and nurse', Susan read a book. Irhit could now see that behind the book, Susan had been masturbating and playing with her penis. As he watched that historical record, Irhit seemed to recall that he had felt a strange attachment to his sister that now reminded him of the orgasm trances he could share with Yenti. Arriving in Yaddo, Betty and Lany went directly to the home of Henry and Richard. As they turned up the walkway that led to their house, they we met by Wendy the robot who looked intently at Lany and said, "Before you go in, I need to speak to you."

Lany, who was feeling rather nervous about what Betty expected her to do, asked, "Who are you?"

"I won't tell you my real name, but you can call me Liza... that's the name I've used with Henry and Richard... hoping maybe that it will smoothly fit in with 'Betty' and 'Lany'." She nodded to Betty, then continued speaking to Lany, "Anyhow, I want to suggest that you take me on as a partner. I'll help you entertain Richard."

Betty said, "What's going on? Did Henry tell you-"

Wendy interrupted and told Betty, "Please stay out of this. I've visited with Henry and Richard several times during the past few days. They believe that I recently moved to Yaddo. They'll be pleased to see me on their doorstep again today." She turned her attention back to Lany, "Between the two of us, we'll be able to keep Richard entertained and out of Betty's.... hair."

Betty was about to unleash a stream of objections on 'Liza', but then Lany was saying, "What a relief. I'd be happy to have your help." Lany took Liza by the hand and went up the walkway and rang the doorbell. Betty silently followed along. 

The door opened and there was Henry. He looked past Lany and Liza and said to Betty, "Wow, I've been hoping you'd show up again. I didn't know you were a friend of Liza." He took hold of Lany's hand and said, "And who is this lovely creature?"

Lany replied, "I'm Betty's sister. My name is Lany."

Henry kissed her hand. "Come in, all of you." He called into the house, "Dick! We have company!" Henry went to the bar and rattled bottle and glasses. "Who want's a drink?" Richard came down the stairs from the second floor. "Richard, this is Lany, Betty's sister. And they brought along Liza."

Richard took up a goblet of wine and told Lany, "Nice to meet you. I seem to recall that Betty mentioned two sisters..."

Wendy took hold of Richard arm and took the wine glass out of his other hand. "No, I'm not their sister."

Henry handed Richard another goblet and then gave one to Lany. He told Betty, "I'm rather stunned by your visit. I did not really expect you to return to Yaddo."

Betty made up an excuse. "When I talked to Lany about my visit to Yaddo she became interested. She's quite talented as a sculptor and a painter."

Lany took Richard's other arm and said, "Maybe you could show me some of your work."

Richard took Liza and Lany to his studio, "Right this way. Don't judge me too harshly, I never try to conform to classical esthetic standards..."

Betty moved close to Richard and touched her goblet to his. They sipped the wine then she said, "Allow me to get right to the point and tell you why I'm here. I've become fascinated by your past."

Henry chuckled and guided her to a little loveseat. For a minute they sipped wine and listened to Richard's voice as he gave Liza and Lany a tour of his studio which was down the hallway. Betty finally said, "You are such a quiet and secretive man."

Henry tilted his head and then inserted a thought into Betty's mind: I'm an hermaphrodite, not a man.

Startled by the telepathic contact to Henry, but relieved, Betty finally relaxed and leaned back into the cushions. She had been correct in her hunch about there being something special about Henry. And now he was even willing to share his secrets with her! The story that Henry told to Betty about his past was engrossing and she barely noticed when Richard took Liza and Lany up to his bedroom.

One week after first meeting Yenti, Irhit was up on the alter inside Yenti's ancestral shrine. Riea was there, holding Irhit's hand while Yenti spoke to the statues on the alter using the language of siteq. During the past few days, Irhit had actually been able to not have an erection while in the presence of Yenti or Riea, but when being exposed to a double dose of their pheromones and not having had sex yet that day, Irhit was firmly erect. Now Yenti put a strange condom on his erection and Irhit stared nervously at the flashing metal blade that now decorated the tip of his penis. Riea told him telepathically: Relax, Yenti will be careful.

Riea went with Yenti to the teleporter in the other corner of the room and they disappeared, returning to siteq. Wysy came into the shrine and Irhit said, "I hate the thought that I put Yenti in the hospital."

Wysy glanced at the teleporter and said, "This is all routine, although I must admit that her parents are extremists." Wysy was wiping up the trail of blood that ran across the floor. "Most Asterothrope girls these days have their nhezaurish surgically opened at birth. With each year that passes, the tissue grows and the surgery becomes more complex. And what can I say? Having your lover ritualistically cut open your vagina is a relic of the ancient past..." With Wysy having mopped up most of Yenti's blood, cleaning nanites finished the task.

Just then, Riea reappeared on the teleportation platform. Stepping down, she told Irhit, "Yenti is fine. She wants me to entertain you today. So... maybe Wysy and I can help..." She took the bloody condom off of Irhit's penis and continued, "... help you forget what Yenti asked you to do. Just remember, she really is quite pleased that you opened her nhezaurish." Riea and Wysy were soon playing with Irhit on the big bed and by the end of the day he'd almost accommodated himself to his part in the Akufowofiro ceremony. 

Sneaking out of bed, Irhit looked back over his shoulder at where Riea lay asleep and spread eagle with Wysy still on top, holding Riea's penis inside her nhezaurish. Irhit returned to the shrine room and examined the teleporter. He'd watched carefully when Riea had activated the device and now he looked intently at the little control panel.

It seemed fairly simple: a set of adjustable nobs below a small video screen and the prominent activation button. Doubtlessly, the teleporter was now set for the coordinates of siteq. His hand moved, seemingly of its own volition and he adjusted the dials. Numbers changed on the video panel, but Irhit had no understanding of their meaning. He nervously glanced over his shoulder again, expecting Riea to awaken at any time.

Suddenly there was a rush of air and a small 'pop' and there on the teleporter platform was a man who looked around then told Irhit, "Thanks for teleporting me in. I'm Dani."

Irhit remembered having heard his parents speak of Dani. Irhit had assumed that Dani was a member of the tryp'At Council. The two men shook hands. Riea asked, "A robot?"

Irhit turned and saw Riea in the doorway of the shrine room. He looked back at Dani who told Riea, "Yes, I'm a robot, as you can sense from looking into my mind." Dani stepped off of the teleporter platform and approached Riea. He put out his hand and Riea reached out and touched a few of the robot's fingers with her hand. Dani glanced through the doorway, looking over her head in the direction of a voice. "Who is that?"

Irhit had heard something also. He said, "Wysy?"

Now in physical contact with Dani, Riea's telepathic ability was amplified. She said, "No. It is another robot! Wendy..." Using her telepathic sense, she could feel Wendy's thoughts and stern request that she be allowed to enter the apartment.

Following Wendy's voice as she continued calling out and asking for admittance, Irhit went to the front door, opened it and told Wendy, "Come in."

Wendy moved forward, but she could not pass through the doorway. Irhit watched with fascination as Wendy's two protruding breasts seemed to flatten against an invisible barrier. Betty said, "There is a force screen blocking my passage."

Dani pushed past Irhit and stepped through the doorway, taking hold of Wendy he said, "Hello, Wendy. Long time no see."
