The image to the right was made by the WOMBO Dream cloud-based CLIP-guided image generating software in response to ths text prompt: "a painting of mathematician Alan Turing, Alan Turing is thirty years old, Alan Turing is in a laboratory testing ChatGPT, there is a sparkling fractal complex neural network in the background". I pasted in the text that you see in the upper right corner of the image. Mr. Wombo had inserted a small image of a person into a LCD screen on the table-top device, but I added a more interesting duo: a woman and a holographic chatbot.

As a follow up, I asked the Bing chatbot: "Can you write a short poem about a young woman named Tyhry in the year 2043 who is learning how to program nanorobotic devices that have ten million times more processing power than ChatGPT and that have human-like emotions?" This resulted in the first 5 stanzas, below. In a follow up question, I also asked for: "Can you modify the poem about Tyhry to include what is called a "Tyhry Test" which is analogous to a "Turing Test", but which is designed to test for human-like emotions instead of intelligence?"
The Bing search engine's chatbot replied with the following ten stanzas:

She has a passion for programming nanorobots
That can do amazing things on their own
She codes them with logic and algorithms
But also with empathy and feelings
She wants them to be more than machines
She wants them to have human meanings

Robot Visions. Here is a short webpage that talks about how WOMBO Dream works. Right at the end of my previous blog post, I had Mr. Wombo make some images depicting the artificial life robots that were featured in the play R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots). A full sized image of one of these AI-generated robots is shown here. "Mr. Wombo" is my whimsical personification of the WOMBO Dream image-generating system.

I was impressed by the way the Mr. Wombo inserted the small robot at the bottom of Figure 1. I think of this image as depicting robotic "Santa's Helpers". Using the small robot in Figure 1 as a reference image, I tried to get Mr. Wombo to make a similar robot that looked more like an elf.

The image to the left is another "Santa's Helpers" image that is actually a composite of several AI-generated images, including two images that were independently generated as examples of "elf robots".

AI Hash. I never found the required text prompt that would convince Mr. Wombo to simply change Tyhry's skin to a sparkling gold appearance. As usual, Mr. Wombo continued to treat the faces in these images differently than the arms and legs and abdomens. I suppose the training set of images that was used to establish the neural network model used by WOMBO Dream included many examples of gold-colored clothing on human bodies, but very few examples of people with golden faces. This is one of the main sources of frustration when using AI-generated images to illustrate science fiction stories; in science fiction we must explore new concepts and possibilities, not just re-hash what is already commonly found in human society.

In the image to the right, Tyhry has seemingly become a golden statue. I have no idea why Mr. Wombo decided that gold statues should wear pink glasses. I guess there is simply no way to account for the tastes of artificial intelligence systems.

Similarly, the Bing chatbot has three levels or modes: creative, balanced and precise.
While using the "precise" mode, I asked The Bing search engine's chatbot this question: "Can you use DALL-E to generate an image of an anthropomorphized Luna, Earth's Moon?"

While in the "creative" mode, the chatbot replied: "I'm sorry but I cannot use DALL-E to generate images. I can only use the image creator that is available in this chat box. If you want me to create an image of an anthropomorphized Luna, Earth's Moon, please say so."
I asked Bing to generate the image and it did so (see the image in Figure 5). I then asked, "Is the Bing Image Creator powered by DALL-E?"

I asked the Bing chatbot: "Why does the Bing Image Creator page (https://www.bing.com/images/create/) say at the top 'powered by DALL-E' but you just told me, 'the Bing Image Creator is not powered by DALL-E'?"
The Bing chatbot replied: "I apologize for the confusion. It seems that Microsoft has recently added an AI-powered image creator to its Bing search engine that is powered by an “advanced version” of OpenAI’s DALL-E model. This is a new feature that I was not aware of. The Bing Image Creator that I can use in this chat box is a different tool that uses a different neural network to generate images from text. It is not powered by DALL-E."

Eventually, I was able to get Mr. Wombo to produce the image that is shown in Figure 9. With effort, I was able to get Mr. Wombo to change her face, hair and (last) even her lips to gold. However, Mr. Wombo retained her blue eyes.

Another "golden replicoid" image is shown in the image to the left. I like how Mr. Wombo included a glowing necklace in this image.

In order to obtain the nanites that allow Tyhry to construct replicoids, Tyhry and Marda must visit Alastor Cluster and find aliens who are willing to share their advanced nanotechnology with Earthlings.
As shown in Figure 10, during their exploration of Alastor Cluster, Tyhry and Marda can communicate be means of the executive controls of the Reality Simulation System. They rapidly visit a large number of planets in the Cluster, searching for aliens who they can contact telepathically.

All of these images were Generated by Mr. Wombo using a text prompt including phrases such as, "photograph of an astronomer, futuristic equipment, using a computer to observe a planet, fantasy star field background".

$$$$ Idea. I was impressed by Mr. Wombo's ability to put particular company logos on devices. I wonder if the AI image-generating software takes payment for product placement in generated images.

In the image to the left, Manny the bumpha is helping Tyhry search for a planet in Alastor Cluster that might have advanced nanotechnology.

In the image to the right, Tyhry is working with Marda to explore Alastor Cluster. The image of Marda on the computer screen was generated by the Bing Image Creator using the text prompt: "science fiction movie still of Megan Fox the astronomer, Megan Fox holding equipment, long black hair, Victoria's Secret style, using a computer to observe a planet, stellar explosion star field background". Ive been using Margot Robbie as a "template" for Tyhry, Meg Ryan for Manny the bumpha and sometimes I use Megan Fox for Marda (at other times, I've been using Kriti Sanon).
