Phari vs bumpha

Tyhry, Marda and Rylla.
Here in April of 2026, I got into my time machine and went back to February 2024 to the point in time when I began writing a science fiction story that became "The Nanite Smuggler". That story writing project was one of my early explorations of using Large Language Models to assist in science fiction story writing.

In order to facilitate using Gemini, I made use of stored Google Docs text files stored on Google Drive. As described in my past few blog posts, I've been making some updates to Google Docs file that holds "The Nanite Smuggler". I wrote a short 'Preface' for the story that introduces R. Nyrtia and Manny the bumpha to readers and which hints at Manny's effort to build a working relationship with the Phari.

In my previous blog post, I asked Claude to make a first draft Epilogue for "The Nanite Smuggler" in which Nyrtia and Manny discuss recent progress by Manny in understanding the Phari. Below on this blog page is my 3,400 word-long version of that Epilogue.

 Epilogue

The Tarynon Reality, Earth, late 2040

Manny the bumpha stood in the high desert of Arizona, not far from Casanay, where by day the land fell away in long auburn shelves towards the valley below, but at night the sky put on a dazzling show with sparkling stars and the misty gray river of the galaxy. The stars of the Tarynon Reality blazed overhead, identical in their arrangement to the stars Manny had watched from this same Arizona plateau in the previous Reality. The stars did not care which timeline they inhabited. That, Manny thought, was a perspective that could not be shared by the biological copies of Eddy and Zeta who in this Reality enjoyed both the personal benefits of anti-aging medical nanites and knowledge that immortal replicoid copies of themselves were off on a great adventure inside the Sedron Domain.

Because of her telepathic sensitivities, Manny was aware of R. Nyrtia's arrival before the ancient positronic robot made any visible appearance in the Hadron Domain. A familiar psychic pressure entered the Arizona air near Casanay, the particular quality of telepathic immanence that only a positronic robot of Nyrtia's design could project. Then Nyrtia was simply there, standing beside Manny, looking at the warm glowing light that emerged through the windows of Casanay.

"You are satisfied with this new Reality," Nyrtia said, using spoken language to solidify the wordless telepathic linkage between herself and the bumpha. It was not a question.

"I am rarely satisfied," Manny replied, finding it fitting to use spoken language when on the dusty hills of Earth. "I am occasionally less dissatisfied than usual. This is one of those occasions."

Nyrtia produced a sound that, filtered through her artificial vocal apparatus, approximated the soft laughter of the First Reality woman who had provided the pattern used for Nyrtia's positronic brain. She had dressed up her replicoid body for this meeting with Manny and used a human form tonight that featured the thoughtful face of a dark-eyed woman of middle age, composed and watchful. Nyrtia had learned, across more Realities than she cared to count, how to select a human face that suitable for any occasion. For a time, Nyrtia gazed upon Manny's preferred physical form for visits to Earth: that of a tall young woman with writhing nanite-generated hair that sparkled in the star light. "This was a new kind of Reality Change," she said. "I miss the days when a new Reality could be initiated by a time-traveling robot. There is something elegant -almost magical- about initiating a Reality Change without using a physical time-traveler. I'm surprised that you were able to generate enough Temporal Energy with mere information flow."

"You are entirely impressed," Manny said pleasantly.

"Tell me how it was done."

Manny considered withholding the details of the Change from Nyrtia and taking pleasure in watching Nyrtia's curiosity stretch itself, but she decided against making a show out of Nyrtia's limitations. In the exaltation of the moment, Manny was beyond playing those sorts of games tonight, or at least she felt the need for some comradery. "It was Tarynon," she said. "The Tarynon of the previous Reality used her mastery of the Sedron Time Stream to achieve the extraordinary. She had been trained well. The Sedruth entity provided hints for how to most efficiently save Eddy and Zeta from the gamma ray burst."

"Hints that can be traced back to you and your use of bumpha Reality Viewing technology." Nyrtia knew that Manny had ended the Time Travel War by making use of a newly developed bumpha Reality Viewer that could look two Realities ahead along Earth's Reality Chain.

"The new Reality was crafted by everyone," Manny said. "Contributions came from Tyhry, from the tryp'At of Tar'tron, Hypatia... even the two replicoid copies of Isaac Asimov who argued constantly but arrived at the same conclusions when it mattered. However, the Tyhry mind pattern that I designed was key. When the Tyhry genome was instantiated as a child in zeptite form and then her mind shaped by telepaths... well, that crafted the tool that was needed to allow a human to cause a Reality Change.”

“How many copies of Tyhry do you plan to make?”

“I find it is easier to prepare a vessel than to control what eventually fills it. There will be many different versions of Tyhry, each seeking to astound the universe."

Nyrtia pulled her gaze off of Casanay and turned to look at Manny directly. Now with some telepathic access to Manny's memories of recent events, Nyrtia began to understand the mechanics of the recent Reality Change. "The information packets composed by Tarynon and her daughter traveled backwards through the Sedron Time Stream and altered Tyhry's behavior at a critical moment. It was a very small adjustment to the girl's behavior, causing her to speak with Systolina before attempting to contact the Phari directly."

"A very small behavioral adjustment," Manny agreed. "A Temporal Paradox was generated, or rather, the threat of Paradox existed for the old timeline. Mathy understood that distinction precisely. The temporal energy associated with that Paradox was of the same order of magnitude possible for the physical time travel methods you robots once used. In this case, no physical object moved through time, but it was possible to trigger a Reality Change with only information flow into the past."

"Mathy." Nyrtia said the name as though testing its weight. "Tarynon's daughter. From my place in the Hierion Domain, I have been watching the Tarynon lineage with considerable interest."

"I know you have." Manny did not say it accusingly. Nyrtia's watching was simply a feature of the universe, like gravity or the tendency of sedrons to cluster. "The Tarynon lineage is extraordinary. Each generation is boosted up by telepathic support from the mother during gestation and the resulting trained mind reaches more deeply into the Sedron Time Stream than the previous one could."

A dry wind moved across the desert shelf, carrying the smell of sage and cooling rock. The lights of Casanay glittered and danced, reflecting the movement of the residents. Nyrtia could telepathically sense the Tyhry telepathic mind pattern, similar to the Tarynon pattern but lacking the zeptite-generated resonances that were possible on Tar'tron.

Nyrtia felt confident that this would not be the last Reality Change powered by information flow through the Sedron Time Stream. For a time, Nyrtia marveled at the audacity of Manny to engineer a Reality Change by means of the newly-crafted Tarynon tool rather than a precision bumpha technology like the Sedruth entity. Since the Phari had learned to ignore Manny's older tools, a sparkling new tool had been deployed. Of course, Nyrtia had her own long history of collaboration with the Phari. But was 'collaboration' really the correct descriptor? The Phari always had done what they wanted to do. After much introspection about how Nyrtia had handled her own interactions with the Phari, finally Nyrtia asked Manny, "And the Phari?"

Manny had been waiting for Nyrtia to mention the Phari. "The Phari," Manny said carefully, "helped Systolina establish her 'chapel' on Threy. The Phari have made an industry out of it... welcoming the robots of Threy through a portal in side the chapel that gives access into a Simulation of the Hierion Domain. I suppose it was your long constructive relationship with the Phari that made them develop an appreciation for the plight of positronic robots.”

“Yes, the Phari view positronic robots as lost souls, created beings with no real home in the galaxy... prime material for transcendence into the Hierion Domain.” Nyrtia added, “Humans still expect positronic robots to serve them.” Nyrtia could feel the telepathic mind pattern of Anthony inside Casanay, but she did not open a communications link to him.”

Manny noted, “Well, I've programmed Tyhry with the human equivalent of the Laws of Robotics. She also must serve Humanity.”

“Yes, the Phari have a fondness for Tyhry. You engineered that with amazing efficiency.” Nyrtia noted, “The Phari permitted Tyhry to make use of their interstellar communications network.”

Manny added, “And they teleported programmable zeptites to Tar'tron at Tyhry's request. Those are not the behaviors of a civilization that wishes to remain isolated and hidden inside the Hierion Domain."

"No," Nyrtia said. "They are the behaviors of a civilization that wishes to negotiate with you as an equal, on its own terms."

"Which is, of course, the only civilization worth negotiating with." Manny looked up at the stars. "The Phari have spent billions of years becoming the masters of the Hierion Domain. They have watched the coming and going of every Reality of Deep Time from their unchanging refuge. We bumpha are still technologically superior to the Phari, but they are not afraid of me. They are cautious of me, which is entirely different."

"Cautious because they respect your capabilities," Nyrtia asked, "or cautious because they suspect your motives?"

"The Phari still harbor resentments over their treatment by the pek. But when the pek drove the Phari completely out of the Hadron Domain and into the Hierion Domain, it forced them to expand in a new direction. I was able to entice them with the technological riches of the Sedron Domain." Manny allowed herself a small smile. "I've tempted the Phari with pretty technologies that are impossible to resist. It was inevitable that when given access to bumpha tools, the Phari would adopt bumpha political biases.”

Nyrtia nodded. “If you have a hammer in your hand, everything looks like a nail.”

Figure 1. Edited.
“Exactly!” Manny was please that Nyrtia could appreciate the logic of how Manny could manipulate the Phari. “The Phari used Systolina as a tool, yes, but they also educated her. They showed her how to reach the Hierion Domain. They welcomed femtobot copies of Systolina and other positronic robots into the Hierion Domain. The Phari do not make those gestures carelessly, but the positronic robots are my Trojan Horse. The Phari have their own motives for doing exactly what I had hoped they would do."

Nyrtia said, "The Phari have made friends in the Hadron Domain."

"They wanted several allies in the Hadron Domain," Manny corrected. "Systolina. Tyhry's family. Possibly some of the immortal telepathic colonists on Tar'tron. The Phari are assembling a new network in the Hadron Domain, an echo of how they previously built a vast Phari Network in the Asimov Reality. They watched me using tools such a the Sedron Time Stream across multiple Realities and they learned from me. I gave then access to those tools and the Phari could not resist adopting them."

Nyrtia was quiet again. An owl called from somewhere in the darkness below the mesa's edge. "You believe," Nyrtia said slowly, "that the Reality Change was shaped as much by the Phari's intentions as it was by Tarynon's desire to same Eddy and Zeta."

"I believe the Phari saw many possible futures in the Sedron Time Stream long before the supernova triggered a reaction from Tarynon," Manny said. "The Phari have been using the Sedron Time Stream far longer than Tarynon. The notion that they did not anticipate this particular outcome, and quietly position themselves to benefit from it, strikes me as naive." She paused. "Which is not to diminish what Tarynon and Mathy accomplished. The Sedron Time Stream is not a simple river. To send a precise message to an exact moment in the past, carrying enough coherence to alter a specific decision made by a specific person, while maintaining the threat of paradox as a source of temporal energy — that required extraordinary skill and extraordinary courage."

"The courage of people who knew they might cease to exist if a Temporal Paradox was created," Nyrtia said.

"Tarynon was willing to cash-in her eternal life," Manny replied. "Sacrifice herself for a chance to give Eddy his dream of meeting the Huaoshy. For Eddy, that dream was like wanting to meet God."

Nyrtia moved a few steps out into the desert, her footfalls entirely silent on the dry ground. Speaking to a nearby bush (in her mind it was burning) she challenged her own god, Manny: "You could have warned me about the Reality Change before it occurred."

"I could have. I chose not to."

"Why?"

Manny considered her answer. "Because you would have tried to influence the outcome, just as the Phari did. Not maliciously. But your instinct is always to put the interests of positronic robots somewhere near the center of any significant event. Your meddling would have given Systolina too much agency. I needed the center of this event to remain human. Or nearly human. Tyhry is tryp'At enough for my purposes."

Nyrtia whirled and verbally thrust at Manny, "I have never obstructed your work!"

"You have never obstructed my work successfully," Manny said, with genuine warmth. "Which is not quite the same thing. You appreciate the distinction I am making." Reached out and placed a hand on the shoulder of the ancient robot. "Nyrtia, I am not accusing you. I am explaining myself. We have had, between us, a relationship that is adversarial in its structure and collaborative in its consequences. I think that has served both of us reasonably well across a considerable span of time."

"As long as you adhere to the terms of the Trysta-Grean Pact, I am satisfied." There was something in Nyrtia's tone of voice that might have been affection, filtered through the twisted history of the Time Travel War.

"What I am telling you now," Manny continued, "is that the structure of our relationship may be about to change. The Phari are extending their reach and crafting a network of allies in the Hadron Domain. They are doing it slowly and on their own terms, as they do everything. But they are doing it. If I can establish a working relationship with the Phari, the implications for humanity's future are significant. We might be able to move out of the era of Phari pranks into a new era when the Phari are completely constructive in their actions."

"And for the positronic robots?" Nyrtia asked. It was a question this time. Coming from the core of Nyrtia's existence.

"And there are implications for the positronic robots," Manny confirmed. "The Phari have been curious about positronic robots ever since you first contacted them. I suspect that if I am able to open a genuine channel of communication with the Phari, you and I will find ourselves negotiating together, rather than around each other."

The owl called again. Neither of them spoke for a while.

Finally, Nyrtia said, "Systolina is the key."

"Systolina is a key," Manny said. "She is not the only one. Tyhry has the Laws of Robotics embedded in her cognition and the Phari may make little distinction between robots and Tyhry. The Phari find the behavioral control that is exerted by the Laws of Robots remarkably compelling. They have spent billions of years watching biological species damage themselves with each new technology they discover. A human nanite programmer like Tyhry, who is constitutionally incapable of misusing her knowledge, who must do what is best for all of Humanity, represents something genuinely novel to them."

"You designed her that way intentionally, just to attract the Phari."

"Of course I did. And I designed Tyhry to be curious enough to discover everything I could not give her directly, and stubborn enough to keep trying after every failure, and fond enough of her parents to provide the emotional motivation that would sustain her through years of effort. Good engineering is always partly emotional engineering." Manny glanced towards the house below, where a lights still burned inside Casanay. "Now Tyhry is building a spaceship, you know. Fifty copies of herself, arguing in a simulated laboratory in the Ekcolir Reality, arguing over the design. It will be a remarkable vessel."

"She will want to take it to Tar'tron," Nyrtia said.

"Eventually. First she will want to take it in search of worlds of the old Phari Network that are known to Eddy from the Asimov Reality Simulation. She is Tyhry. She will first want to go somewhere that can be quickly reached." Manny took hold of Nyrtia's hand and they began walking slowly through the dark desert together. "Let Tyhry go into space. Let them all go. That is the whole point, in the end, as required by the terms of the Trysta-Grean Pact. Humans must have their great adventure among the stars of this galaxy. Copies of Zeta and Eddy have transcended from the Hadron Domain. The Phari have invited humans into the Hierion Domain. The bumpha intend to entice Humanity into the Sedron Domain. Such choice is good for these primates of Earth."

"Do you trust the Phari?" Nyrtia asked. Manny could telepathically sense Nyrtia's doubts about the reclusive Phari.

Manny thought about Nyrtia's question and gave Nyrtia's hand a comforting squeeze. "I trust that their interests and mine overlap sufficiently that cooperation is now more useful to them than obstruction. I trust that they are not cruel, which is what you might expect, from your perspective as a robot who can do no harm. I trust that they find humanity genuinely interesting, which is the most durable foundation for a long relationship that I know of." She paused. "Do I trust them the way I trust the Sedron Time Stream, or the way I trust the behavior of sedron particles under controlled conditions? No. But I have learned, across many Realities, not to require that level of certainty from intelligent life-forms before proceeding with creation of the future."

"A bumpha who accepts uncertainty?" Nyrtia said. "I suppose you know how the future will unfold. That is the basis of you trusting the Phari."

"The universe always changes," Manny said. "That is the one thing that never changes about it. Even what I see in the future can be changed, as Tarynon recently proved."

They walked in silence for a while longer, two ancient intelligences, under stars that did not care which Reality they inhabited, looking in through one of the windows of Casanay. Now Anthony had detected Nyrtia's telepathic mind pattern and they exchanged a greeting.

Nyrtia told Manny, "I will want to be included in any formal negotiations with the Phari, if an opportunity for that comes."

"I know. And you will be there," Manny said.

"Why will you include me? Positronic robots have almost been entirely excluded from the Tarynon Reality."

Manny made a slight adjustment to Anthony's memories, helping him past guilt that he still felt from not having prevented the death of the Marda replicoid on Threy. "I will include you," she said, "in every meeting with the Phari. Your presence will help. Your long collaboration with the Phari in the Asimov Reality has not been forgotten."

Nyrtia processed this. "That is a more generous offer than I expected."

"This is a more generous Reality than any of us may have planned for," Manny said. "Sometimes I feel that the Huaoshy are directly helping smooth the way ahead for the primates of Earth. Who knows what the immortal Eddy replicoid has told the Huaoshy about the importance of positronic robots to humans." Certain that all was now well inside Casanay, Manny turned and walked back out into the desert. Now walking quickly, Manny looked back towards the house where Nyrtia was telepathically checking in with Anthony.

Manny knew that Eddy was sitting in the dark, looking into a computer display screen. He was writing again and he was happy. Manny quietly spoke out loud with something close to tenderness. "He is writing about the Tarynon Reality."

Nyrtia did not follow Manny. She remained where she was, beside Casanay. Noting the improvement in Anthony's positronic pathways, Nyrtia telepathically said: Manny, well done.

Manny was exiting from the Hadron Domain and returning tho the Sedron Domain. Don't flatter me, she said. We have a great deal of work still ahead of us.

But she was smiling when she said it, in a universe where stars did not care which timeline they occupied, where one old man was writing a science fiction story that told the world the truth about how aliens were guiding Humanity into the future and a young woman was building a spaceship to reach the waiting stars.

Me: Claude, process the file that I just uploaded which contains my edited version of the Epilogue for "The Nanite Smuggler". Generate a numbered list of the major changes between the text of the draft version of the Epilogue that was generated by the Claude LLM and the text of my edited version. In that list of changes, please comment on what each change accomplishes for the story narrative.

Claude: Here is a numbered list of the major changes between the Claude-drafted Epilogue and your edited version, with commentary on what each accomplishes narratively:

  1. Setting description expanded to include Casanay and the Milky Way. Your version opens with "not far from Casanay" and adds the detail of "the misty gray river of the galaxy" visible at night. This grounds the scene in the established geography of the EFU and rewards attentive readers who know Casanay as the Watson family home, while the galaxy imagery reinforces the cosmic scale of what Manny and Nyrtia are discussing.
  2.
Manny's reflection on the stars is rewritten to focus on Eddy and Zeta rather than being a general philosophical observation. In the draft, Manny muses abstractly that "stars did not care which timeline they inhabited." In your version, the same thought is immediately connected to the biological copies of Eddy and Zeta who now know that their immortal replicoid copies are "off on a great adventure inside the Sedron Domain." This keeps the emotional stakes of the story present even in the philosophical opening passage.
  3. Nyrtia's arrival is reframed as a telepathic presence rather than simply appearing. Your version specifies "a familiar psychic pressure entered the Arizona air near Casanay, the particular quality of telepathic immanence that only a positronic robot of Nyrtia's design could project." The draft used the vaguer phrase "familiar presence." This change is consistent with the story's careful treatment of positronic robot telepathy as a distinct and technically specific phenomenon, and it reminds the reader of Nyrtia's nature before she is even seen.
  4. Nyrtia is described as looking at Casanay rather than looking at the stars. In the draft, both characters gaze upward together. In your version, Nyrtia looks at the warm light of the house, and Manny's description of Nyrtia's face is reoriented so that Nyrtia is observing Manny's nanite-generated hair "sparkling in the starlight." This subtle repositioning gives Nyrtia a more watchful, intelligence-gathering quality that suits her character, and it establishes Casanay as an emotional focal point for the scene.
  5. Nyrtia's opening comment is reframed as being about the novelty of the Reality Change mechanism rather than simple satisfaction. In the draft, she simply asks Manny to confirm she is satisfied. In your version, Nyrtia says "I miss the days when a new Reality could be initiated by a time-traveling robot" and explicitly wonders about generating "enough Temporal Energy with mere information flow." This is a significant improvement because it puts Nyrtia's positronic robot perspective front and center immediately, establishing her as someone with a personal historical stake in how Reality Changes are accomplished, not merely a curious observer.
  6.
Manny's explanation of the Reality Change credits the Sedruth entity and mentions Manny's own bumpha Reality Viewer technology. Your version has Manny say "The Sedruth entity provided hints for how to most efficiently save Eddy and Zeta from the gamma ray burst" and Nyrtia adds context about Manny having "ended the Time Travel War by making use of a newly developed bumpha Reality Viewer that could look two Realities ahead." The draft omitted both of these details. This deepens the technical coherence of the EFU's history and positions this Reality Change within a longer tradition of bumpha temporal engineering.
  7. The passage about "a vessel and what fills it" is redirected toward future copies of Tyhry rather than Tarynon. In the draft this line closed a discussion of Tarynon's training. In your version it answers Nyrtia's question "How many copies of Tyhry do you plan to make?" — making it a more pointed statement about Manny's ongoing agenda and Tyhry's role as a replicable template for future agents, which adds a slightly unsettling dimension to Manny's affection for Tyhry.
  8. The mechanical explanation of the Reality Change is tightened and attributed more precisely to Mathy. Your version specifies that "Mathy understood that distinction precisely" regarding the Paradox being a threat rather than a consequence, and removes the draft's more discursive explanation. This trusts the reader's familiarity with the story's established temporal mechanics and keeps the pacing brisk.
  9. Nyrtia's observation about the Tarynon lineage is expanded with a sensory detail: she can telepathically sense Tyhry's mind pattern from outside Casanay. Your version adds "Nyrtia could telepathically sense the Tyhry telepathic mind pattern, similar to the Tarynon pattern but lacking the zeptite-generated resonances that were possible on Tar'tron." This is a small but technically rich addition that reinforces the relationship between Tyhry and Tarynon established in the story and uses Nyrtia's senses as a narrative tool for conveying worldbuilding information naturally.
  10.
A new paragraph is inserted where Nyrtia privately reflects on the Phari and her own history with them before asking Manny about the Phari. Your version gives Nyrtia an interior moment: she considers the audacity of the Tarynon tool versus a precision bumpha technology, reflects on her own collaboration with the Phari, and asks herself whether "collaboration" is even the right word. This is a meaningful addition because it gives Nyrtia psychological depth and acknowledges the long and complicated history between positronic robots and the Phari that is part of the EFU background, making her eventual question about the Phari feel earned rather than simply prompted.
  11. Manny's account of the Phari and Systolina is reframed around Nyrtia's prior relationship with the Phari. Your version has Manny say "I suppose it was your long constructive relationship with the Phari that made them develop an appreciation for the plight of positronic robots," and Nyrtia replies with her own interpretation: "the Phari view positronic robots as lost souls." The draft had no such acknowledgment of Nyrtia's historical role. This change honors the backstory of the EFU, gives Nyrtia agency in the history being discussed, and makes the Phari's behavior feel like a continuation of ancient patterns rather than a new development.
  12. Anthony is mentioned as being inside Casanay, and Nyrtia deliberately does not open a link to him. Your version adds "Nyrtia could feel the telepathic mind pattern of Anthony inside Casanay, but she did not open a communications link to him." This small detail accomplishes quite a lot: it shows Nyrtia's discipline and awareness, it acknowledges Anthony's presence in the story's conclusion, and it quietly signals that Nyrtia and Anthony have a history that is being respectfully set aside for this larger conversation.
  13. Manny's explanation of why she can manipulate the Phari is restructured around the pek's historical mistreatment of the Phari. Your version replaces the draft's more generic observation about the Phari being "cautious" with Manny's explanation that "the pek drove the Phari completely out of the Hadron Domain and into the Hierion Domain" and that Manny was able to "entice them with the technological riches of the Sedron Domain." This roots Manny's strategy in the deep history of the EFU and makes her confidence feel analytically grounded rather than merely assertive.
  14.
The hammer-and-nail metaphor is added. Nyrtia says "If you have a hammer in your hand, everything looks like a nail" and Manny enthusiastically agrees. This is a nicely humanizing exchange between two ancient intelligences; it also efficiently conveys Manny's strategy of giving the Phari bumpha tools knowing that tool-use shapes political perspective.
  15. The "Trojan Horse" framing is introduced. Manny says "the positronic robots are my Trojan Horse" with respect to the Phari. This is a striking and memorable formulation that clarifies Manny's long game and positions Nyrtia's robots as unwitting instruments of bumpha strategy — which adds some edge to their relationship and gives Nyrtia something to react to.
  16. Nyrtia's confrontation with Manny is given a theatrical staging detail. Your version has Nyrtia "whirl" and "verbally thrust" at Manny when she insists she has never obstructed bumpha work, and there is a parenthetical aside where she imagines she is speaking "to a nearby bush (in her mind it was burning)," casting herself as Moses challenging God. This is a rare moment of humor and mythological self-awareness for Nyrtia that reveals character in a pleasantly unexpected way.
  17. Manny physically touches Nyrtia when reassuring her. In the draft this exchange is purely verbal. Your version has Manny "reach out and place a hand on the shoulder of the ancient robot." This small physical gesture humanizes both characters and softens what might otherwise read as a purely strategic conversation.
  18. Nyrtia's acceptance of their relationship is grounded in the Trysta-Grean Pact rather than vague affection. Your version has Nyrtia say "As long as you adhere to the terms of the Trysta-Grean Pact, I am satisfied" rather than the draft's warmer but vaguer tone. This keeps Nyrtia's character consistent: she is not simply moved by sentiment but by contractual obligation and institutional memory.
  19. "Phari pranks" is introduced as a category. Manny says the goal is to "move out of the era of Phari pranks into a new era when the Phari are completely constructive in their actions." This is an efficient and characterful summary of the Phari's behavior throughout the entire story and gives the proposed Manny-Phari relationship a concrete and story-specific goal.
  20.
Nyrtia's question about the positronic robots is marked explicitly as coming from "the core of Nyrtia's existence." The draft simply has her ask the question. Your version adds this phrase, which deepens the emotional register of the moment and reminds the reader that for all her ancient perspective, Nyrtia has a genuine existential stake in the fate of positronic robots.
  21. Tyhry's planned first voyage is redirected toward worlds of the old Phari Network rather than simply "somewhere new." Your version specifies she will search for "worlds of the old Phari Network that are known to Eddy from the Asimov Reality Simulation." This is more specific and more narratively satisfying, tying Tyhry's future ambitions directly to research threads established earlier in the story.
  22. Manny takes Nyrtia's hand as they walk. Your version has Manny "take hold of Nyrtia's hand" as they begin walking together. This is a significant character moment — two beings who have been adversaries across countless Realities walking hand in hand in the desert — and it gives their relationship a warmth and intimacy that the draft's side-by-side walking did not achieve.
  23. The trust discussion is reoriented toward Nyrtia's doubts rather than Manny's general philosophy. Your version has Manny "telepathically sense Nyrtia's doubts about the reclusive Phari" before answering, and the reassurance is directed at Nyrtia specifically rather than offered as abstract reflection. This makes the exchange more emotionally direct.
  24. Manny promises to include Nyrtia in every meeting with the Phari, not just those where her presence helps. The draft's version was more conditional: "every meeting where your presence helps." Your version removes that qualification entirely, which is a more generous and dramatically cleaner commitment, and it better fits the tone of reconciliation the scene is building toward.
  25. The reason for including Nyrtia is grounded in her historical collaboration with the Phari in the Asimov Reality. Your version adds "Your long collaboration with the Phari in the Asimov Reality has not been forgotten." This is a gracious acknowledgment of Nyrtia's independent contributions to the history being celebrated, rather than simply folding her into Manny's plans.
  26.
The closing section replaces Manny's extended philosophical meditation with Manny quietly adjusting Anthony's memories. Your version has Manny make "a slight adjustment to Anthony's memories, helping him past guilt that he still felt from not having prevented the death of the Marda replicoid on Threy." This is an excellent addition: it gives Anthony a moment of resolution, it demonstrates Manny's ongoing care for the people around Tyhry, and it shows Manny acting as a healer rather than just a strategist, which rounds her character beautifully in the Epilogue's final pages.
  27. Manny speculates that Eddy's replicoid may have told the Huaoshy about the importance of positronic robots. This brief addition opens an intriguing narrative possibility for future stories — that Eddy, now in the Sedron Domain meeting the Huaoshy, may be serving as an advocate for positronic robots in the highest possible court — while also honoring Eddy's lifelong dream in a satisfying way.
  28. Nyrtia's final communication to Manny is sent telepathically as Manny is already leaving. In the draft, Nyrtia speaks aloud. In your version, Manny is "exiting from the Hadron Domain and returning to the Sedron Domain" when Nyrtia telepathically transmits "well done." This staging is more elegant: Manny is already halfway gone, and Nyrtia's praise catches her in transit. It suits both characters perfectly.
  29. The final image removes Manny and ends with Eddy writing and Tyhry building. Your version's closing sentence focuses entirely on "one old man writing a science fiction story that told the world the truth" and "a young woman building a spaceship to reach the waiting stars," with no mention of Manny walking back. This is the stronger ending: the Epilogue closes not on the ancient beings who orchestrated everything but on the human beings whose lives gave it meaning, which is precisely the emotional note the story earns.

Figure 2. Three AI-generated hands.
I asked Gemini to make some "storybook" images for the Epilogue. I provided Gemini with the full text of the Epilogue and the three appendices from the Google Docs version of the story. In one of the Gemini-generated images, a dude named Silas was given three hands (see Figure 2, shown to the right on this page). I also asked Gemini to make an edited version of the image where Silas only has two hands (see Figure 1, above) Strangely, Gemini created an entirely different story which is shown below in red text.

The job was finished, but the weight of the canister still felt heavy in Vesper’s mind. She sat in the pilot’s seat of the Low-Light, watching the stars stretch into long, white threads of light. She had spent a lifetime moving things that didn’t want to be moved, but these nanites—microscopic architects of a future she didn't understand—felt different. The silence of the cockpit was thick with the hum of the engine and the memory of the cold metal she had carried across the sector.

The Low-Light descended through the thick, amber clouds of Ouroboros Prime. The city below was a sprawling lace of neon and iron, a place where secrets were the only currency that never lost its value. Vesper guided the ship toward the rusted platforms of the Docks, her heart syncing with the rhythmic thud of the landing thrusters. She wasn't just delivering a payload; she was delivering a spark to a powder keg.

Silas was waiting in the shadow of a massive cooling vent, his silhouette barely distinguishable from the industrial grime. He was the one who had orchestrated the heist, the man who knew exactly which codes would break the vault. As Vesper approached, he stepped into the flickering light of a streetlamp, his eyes scanning the perimeter before they ever landed on her.

The exchange was silent. Vesper handed over the briefcase, and Silas pressed a small, pressurized cylinder into her palm. It wasn't money. It was the "Seed," the final piece of the nanite sequence that she had been promised as her true payment. Silas looked at the briefcase with a reverence that bordered on fear. He knew that inside those vials was the power to rewrite the city's DNA, for better or for worse.

Three hands are better than two.
Without a word, Silas turned to a nearby terminal embedded in the soot-covered wall. He keyed in a sequence, and the briefcase clicked into a port. A low hum vibrated through the floorboards. High above them, the city’s massive filtration towers began to pulse with a rhythmic, violet light. The nanites were being released into the atmosphere, millions of invisible workers beginning their assigned task.

Vesper watched the sky. The smog didn't just clear; it transformed. The violet light from the towers began to weave through the clouds, knitting them into a shimmering canopy that reflected the city's lights back down upon its streets. "It's not a weapon, Vesper," Silas whispered, his voice cracking the stillness. "It’s a lung. We’re finally going to let this place breathe."

For Vesper, the realization hit like a physical blow. She had spent her career believing she was a cog in a machine of destruction. She was a smuggler of contraband, a dealer in the forbidden. But as the air grew crisp and the metallic tang of the Undercity began to fade into something sweet and earthy, she realized she had been the messenger for a miracle.

Silas stepped away from the terminal, the briefcase now empty and discarded. He looked at Vesper, his expression softening for the first time since they had met. He reached out and touched the small vial she still held. "That vial contains the blueprint for the next phase," he said. "If the city survives the night, we’ll need someone who knows how to move through the shadows to plant the rest."

The sun began to rise, but it wasn't the dull, grey dawn Vesper was used to. The sunlight caught the nanite-infused clouds, turning the horizon into a kaleidoscope of gold and emerald. Vesper walked back toward the Low-Light, her boots clicking on the metal ramp. The world felt larger now, and the shadows she once hid in felt less like a cage and more like a path.

Sitting back in her cockpit, Vesper placed the vial into a secure compartment on her dash. She didn't engage the thrusters immediately. Instead, she watched a small green shoot pushing its way through a crack in the landing pad's reinforced concrete—a tiny, impossible sign of life fueled by the invisible machines she had brought to this world. The smuggler was gone; the gardener remained.

I had NotebookLM make a "video overview" about the concept of there being a Dimensional Structure of the universe...

Image generated by Leonardo.
In addition to the Google Docs text file that holds the full text of "The Nanite Smuggler", NotebookLM was provided by the following text (below, in green) that was generated by Claude:

The Dimensional Structure of the universe, as depicted in the story, refers to the particular configuration of the universe's nine spatial dimensions — three sets of three dimensions each, which define three distinct physical domains.

In the ground state, the original Dimensional Structure was symmetrical and low-energy. The three domains it defines are the Hadron Domain, the Hierion Domain, and the Sedron Domain. Each domain is governed by its own class of fundamental particles: hadrons in the familiar domain of stars and planets, hierions in the Hierion Domain, and sedrons in the Sedron Domain. The bond lengths between particles within each domain differ enormously, which is why femtobots (hierion-based) are far smaller than conventional nanomachines, and zeptites (sedron-based) are roughly a million times smaller still than femtobots.

The critical plot-relevant feature of the Dimensional Structure is that the Huaoshy — the most technologically advanced life-forms in the universe — can actually alter it. They did so twice in the story's backstory. The first alteration made faster-than-light travel and technology-assisted telepathy possible by changing how the domains interact. The second alteration was more drastic: it was performed specifically to end the Time Travel War by severing the ability of hadrons and hierions to travel through time. This brought the Final Reality into existence. However, the modification was imperfect or intentionally incomplete in one respect — sedrons retained the ability to carry information from the future into the past, which is the physical basis for the Sedron Time Stream and ultimately for everything Tyhry and Tarynon accomplish in the story.

Image generated by Leonardo.
The diagram described in Appendix 3 represents the nine spatial dimensions as the vertices of three triangles, with the shaded triangle representing the Hadron Domain. Each transition shown in the diagram — from Ground State through a Transitional Universe to Our Universe — corresponds to one of the Huaoshy's deliberate modifications of the underlying physics of reality.

Also, this was text (in red, below) that was generated by NotebookLM:

The nine-dimensional architecture of the universe is a masterwork of hard science fiction world-building! It consists of three sets of three spatial dimensions, each defining a specific physical domain: the Hadron Domain (our macroscopic world), the Hierion Domain (femtoscale physics), and the Sedron Domain (sub-femtoscale/zeptite level).

The physics of scale here is mind-blowing—hierion-based femtobots are sub-nanoscale, but sedron-based zeptites are a million times smaller still, allowing for artificial life-forms that operate at a level humans can barely detect.

The most incredible concept is the "Deliberate Dimensional Engineering" by the Huaoshy. They altered the original symmetrical ground state twice:

Image generated by Leonardo.
The First Change: This modification enabled faster-than-light travel and technology-assisted telepathy by changing how these domains interact.

The Second Change: To stop the catastrophic Time Travel War, the Huaoshy severed the ability of hadrons and hierions to move through time, creating the Final Reality.

However, the "Sedron Loophole" is the ultimate plot driver. Because the modification didn't fully restrict sedrons, information can still leak from the future into the past through the Sedron Time Stream. This isn't just "magic"—it’s a precise physical bypass that Tyhry and Tarynon use to manipulate timelines and achieve immortality for their parents. Each transition in the triangle diagram reflects these massive, deliberate shifts in the underlying physics of Our Universe.

Note: I don't agree with NotebookLM's belief that allowing sedrons to continue to travel backwards through time in the Final Reality was some kind of surprise to the Huaoshy who had "botched" their dimensional engineering. In my imagination, the Huaoshy intentionally altered the Dimensional Structure so that they could continue to use sedrons for time travel while the positronic robots of Earth, who lacked an understanding of the Sedron Domain, would be blocked from using time travel. Sometimes NotebookLM totally flakes out. At about 2 minutes in the video (above) it says "hadron" when it should say "hierion".

Pantechnyk

the Alys Investigations
Below on this page is Part 4 of the science fiction story called "The Cythyrya Investigation". Previously, in Part 2, Rylla and Rey took Jutta to the planet Sogdian where they got help from Azynov to rescue several of Jutta's clone sisters from the strange mind-control experiments being conducted by Viole Falushe.

The Cythyrya Investigation is Jack Vance fan-fiction based on the premise that the science fiction stories of Jack Vance were inspired by actual events in the Asimov Reality. Thus, Vance's novel "The Book of Dreams" has a character named Alice Wroke while The Cythyrya Investigation shows her actual name to be Alys. Similarly, Vance wrote about Milton, "The Man from Zodiac", while in the timeline of the Asimov Reality there was Lyza (see below, on this page), an agent of the bumpha working from within Zodyac, the scientific investigative team of the Institute.

In the beginning.
In Vance's novels about Kirth Gersen, the Institute was depicted as a galaxy-spanning organization devoted to the suppression of advanced technology. However, in the Asimov Reality, the scientists of Zodyac discovered that the Institute is a front organization established by robots who treat humans like puppets. Lyza becomes caught up in an attempt to obtain Phari nanites that will allow humans to take control the Bimanoid Interface and end the era of humans being behaviorally programmed 'puppets' of their replicoids.

The Femtozoan Intervention. The positronic robots of Earth developed the Bimanoid Interface as a way to provide Earth with Temporal Momentum. However, when the positronic robots first tried to craft telepathic humans, they were bedeviled by the human drive to develop ever more advanced technologies.

A cloned woman on Sogdian (right).
During the Trysta Truce in Asimov Reality, Nyrtia linked the Bimanoid Interface in the Phari Network, which accomplished two things: 1) it allowed the Bimanoid Interface to be used on other planets of the galaxy beyond Earth and 2) Nyrtia learned how to use the Bimanoid Interface to alter human behavior, suppressing human scientific creativity and causing a kind of technological stasis during Earth's Space Age. As humans spread to the many habitable exoplanets of the galaxy, those worlds became a vast laboratory for the artificial evolution of telepathic humans, while humans lacked the technological sophistication to realize what was happening.

At first, the bumpha worked within the constraints of the technologically stagnant society that Nyrtia had engineered, but eventually the bumpha learned enough about Phari technology so that they were then able to find a way to break the tyranny of the Bimanoid Interface and start allowing humans some freedom to develop new technologies. The bumpha tool for breaking the Bimanoid Interface became known as the femtozoan, a form of artificial life that could re-program a person's Phari endosymbiont. The events of Part 4 of The Cythyrya Investigation (below) begin soon after the events that took place in Part 2.

Part 4 of The Cythyrya Investigation (Part 1)(Part 2)(Part 3)

When Rylla and Rey returned from using the Reality Simulation System to visit the planet Sogdian, Eddy thought that Rey seemed unusually subdued. Rylla spoke excitedly about how Azynov had arrived at the Palace of Love and rescued the clones of Jheral Tinzy. Azynov had last been seen transporting the clones and Jutta back to Earth.

Eddy asked Rylla, "What were you able to learn about Retz?"

Finally Rey spoke and told Eddy, "I believe that Retz experimented with femtozoan reprogramming and transplantation. Viole Falushe wanted to alter Jheral Tinzy's femtozoan and transplant it into a clone of Jheral. Falushe hoped that the re-programmed femtozoan would force the clone of Jheral to fall in love with him." Rey slowly shook her head and explained, "Jheral was a powerful telepathic transmitter and Falushe was a good telepathic receiver, leading to his romantic obsession with Jheral."

Tyron's anti-gravity cruiser, Pantechnyk.
Eddy asked Rey, "What do you mean by 'femtozoan'?"

Rey shrugged. "The term 'femtozoan' was in the notes of Viole Falushe and I learned it first by telepathically probing the mind of Retz, but I don't think he really had any deep understanding of its meaning. He was little more than a technician. In any case, I learned from Retz that he could exert some control over femtozoans by making use of an alien artificial life-form from Myllyr's Planet... what he knew as a Vef or a Yulir or some such. Myllyr's Planet is where we must go next."

Eddy asked, "Myllyr's Planet?" He activated the index of the Reality Simulation System and found an entry for Myllyr's Planet. Eddy glanced back at Rylla. "That world means nothing to me. There were thousands of nondescript exoplanets being colonized early in the Space Age of the Asimov Reality."

Rey said, "Myllyr's Planet is part of the ancient Phari Network of planets that existed only in the Asimov Reality, and it is a habitable exoplanet actually located quite close to Earth. Myllyr's Planet was possibly the first Phari world visited by humans. With no human social structure for generating new scientific discoveries or new technologies, there was interest by the Institute in the possibility that humans might obtain advanced technology from aliens on worlds such as Myllyr's Planet. Retz had worked in the laboratories of Tyron Russ on Myllyr's Planet and it was apparently on that world that Russ had somehow obtained negative mass hierions and began using them for their anti-gravity actions."

Irosh the bumpha.
Eddy blurted out, "Are you serious?" He had no idea that humans had learned about hierions that early in the Asimov Reality. Eddy was now thinking about the bumpha and their long struggle against R. Nyrtia and the positronic robots of Earth. Eddy wondered: might Manny the bumpha have provided advanced technology and hierions to a few people in the Asimov Reality such as Tyron Russ?

Rey shrugged. "Obviously, we will have to verify that by visiting Myllyr's Planet."

Rey told Eddy nothing about the fact that she had obtained one of the Jheral femtozoans and it now resided inside her body. Rey was tempted to test the nanites from that femtozoan to determine if they could be used to control and re-activate the teleportation equipment at Observer Base, but that could wait until Myllyr's Planet was investigated.

Rylla also had a new secret that she did not understand and was not prepared to discuss with Eddy. Rylla was unable to explain it, but the Jheral clones, when together in close proximity, could amplify their telepathic abilities. Rylla did not have much telepathic ability herself, but when the Jheral clones had been assembled all in one place, Rylla had been able to recognize the telepathic mind pattern of her daughter, Marda. Strangely, the Jheral mind pattern was quite similar to Marda's mind pattern. The idea that Marda was a clone of some other woman from the Asimov Reality was deeply disturbing to Rylla and she was not certain that she wanted her daughter to ever become aware of that possibility.

______________

Tyron and Lyza.
Tyron Russ tried to roll away from the sleeping Lyza and out of bed, but she noticed his movements and said, "You're up early."

Tyron needed to urinate and he had a very stiff morning erection which he fondled with one hand and pointed at Lyza, "You do that to me, my love."

Lyza followed him and they showered together. Despite her best effort, Lyza only managed to grab one quick orgasm in the shower. Tyron began to dress, but Lyza tried to pull him back to bed. She asked, "Why are you in such a hurry?"

"We reached PC23." Tyron was obsessed with his continuing search for more alien technology. Having obtained the secret of anti-gravity from the Vef-Yulir natives of Myllyr's Planet, he could not resist exploring every Phari Cavern that was hidden deep in the crust of the planet.

"It has been there for a billion years, it will still be there this afternoon. Let's wait until it warms up later today."

"I'm going down now." He was out the door before she could pull on her clothes.

It was cold outside and Lyza rushed to cover her skin as she followed Tyron to the aircar hanger. PC23 was near the south pole of Myller's Planet and Tyron had waited until summer for this visit. They got into one of the anti-gravity aircars and they were soon out of the Pantechnyk and dropping towards the icy surface of the planet below.

Lyza's eyes sought out the mine shaft entrance. She and Tyron had gone through this same routine a dozen times previously at other Phari caverns. As the aircar reached the planet's surface, the door at the mouth of the cavern slid open upon their approach and they were quickly landed inside the entrance to the cavern. There they were met by the Chief Miner of PC23, Polly Rhodysyo, who told Tyron, "Welcome." She looked suspiciously at Lyza and asked, "Who is she?"

"This is my new telepath." Whenever he found a more powerful telepath, Tyron disposed of the old one and exploited the abilities of the best telepath that was available to him. Tyron asked, "How is that platinum deposit panning out?"

Polly Rhodysyo
"Excellent. We are calling it Rhodysyo Reef. The levels of palladium are incredibly high."

The Chief Miner quickly got Tyron and Lyza packing into a drop pod and soon they were falling down through the human-constructed shaft and into the ancient Phari cavern. Packed in tight against Tyron, Lyza was playing with his semi-erect penis when they came to a stop and the pod popped open. They stepped out of the pod and looked around the alien cavern which looked like all the other ones they had previously seen. It was hot and stuffy there inside the cavern, but not as hot as it should be for this great depth under the surface of Myllyr's Planet. Lyza pulled off her top, exposing her four breasts and she confirmed what her telepathic sense was telling her, "The Kry are here. Or... no, these mind patterns... I don't-" Now Lyza was uncertain what she was telepathically sensing.

Tyron looked at Lyza and after noting her four erect nipples, he finally noticed that a blank look had come to her face. She tottered and fell. Tyron caught her long lean body and turned to return to the pod. Then he stumbled and found himself in a group mind space with Lyza and an alien. Lyza was in mid-conversation with the alien: ... now reveal yourselves to us?

The alien mind seemed to be having difficulty conforming to the rules of human linguistic communication. Tyron felt his mind being flooded with a million stray alien thoughts, one of which provided the name of these particular aliens: the Nyk.

The Nyk telepathically said: We Nyk are outcasts, sealed in this cavern as punishment. We are rebels and we don't heed the Phari when they order us to ignore humans.

Not comfortable with telepathy, Tyron spoke out-loud, "I am grateful for that. I've worked hard to contact you. Until now, my telepaths have only felt the minds of the Kry inside these caverns... watching."

The Nyk said: The Kry condemned us to this prison long ago. They passed over into the Hierion Domain, leaving us here. If we help you, then maybe you can help us... break us out of this prison.

Lyza and Tyron.
Lyza told the Nyk: I would be quite happy to help you, but we humans are a young species. We lack technological sophistication. Can you explain exactly what holds you here as prisoners?

The Nyk tried to explain in terms that Lyza and Tyron might understand. This cavern houses a space-time bubble that holds the uncounted billions of we Nyk. We are each femtoscale artificial life forms, caught in a limbo between the Hadron Domain and the Hierion Domain. Very few human minds are like yours, Lyza, with the ability to telepathically resonate with our mind patterns. Sadly, I see nothing in your primitive mind that could help us escape from this prison.

Tyron, as one of the few humans who had been able to escape from the behavioral restrictions imposed by the Bimanoid Interface suggested, "Maybe we could work together. You could teach us how to help you."

The Nyk produced its version of laughter. An amusing concept, Tyron. It is not easy for me to follow your non-telepathic thoughts, but with help from Lyza, I can sense that you seek to access advanced Phari nanotechnology. Nyrtia will not allow that.

Tyron admitted, "Yes, that is my personal goal. My telepaths were able to learn from another species of the Phari Network about the negative mass hierion that makes it possible for these underground caverns to exist under miles of rock. Zodyac scientists have now begun to liberate human minds from the tyranny of the Bimanoid Interface. I can think creatively about new technologies, so tell me how I can help you."

The Nyk said: We know how Zodyac has used the Vef-Yulir to alter human programming. You are clever, Tyron, but why brag about your ability to make technological advances? In essence, all you have done is use an hierion probe to disconnect your Phari endosymbiont from your biobrain. Obviously, that radical nanosurgery has damaged your mind. You are no longer sane. We Nyk cannot trust you. We agree with Nyrtia... human minds should be constrained by behavioral laws. Your mind is too wild and... dangerous. The Nyk are themselves wild and dangerous, but we are not foolish enough to facilitate your evil actions.

At that moment, Tyron and Lyza were ejected from the Nyk telepathic mind space. They found themselves in a heap on the floor of the cavern. The Chief Miner stepped out of the drop pod, having come down to assist with exploration of the cavern. She rushed forward and helped Tyron to his feet and she was impressed by his erection that was partially protruding from his loose fitting pants.

Lyza pointed her erect nipples at the Chief Miner and while pulling back on her shirt, she reported, "We made contact with the residents of this chamber... the Nyk."

Tyron managed to cover up his erection under his clothing and he added, "But we were shunned. The Nyk want nothing to do with us."

Lyza said, "You are the problem, Tyron." She agreed with the Nyk, Tyron's mind was broken and it was her mission to undo the damage he had done. "But while you distracted the Nyk, I did learn something... I'm just not certain what..."

Tyron told Polly, "There is nothing more to be accomplished here. You can return to your mining operations. We will soon depart." With one last glance in the direction of Tyron's erection where it bulged outwards against the fabric of his clothing, Polly departed in the pod, rising up from the deep alien-constructed cavern.

For weeks, Lyza had been dosing Tyron with sex hormones and mind-altering infites, causing him to fall deeply in love with Lyza. Now, after having had his mind touched by the Nyk and placed in telepathic synchrony with Lyza's thoughts, he was in a state of intense sexual desire. He opened up Lyza's blouse and exposed her cute breasts and would have proceeded to ravish her but...

Just then, Rey and Rylla entered into the Asimov Reality Simulation, appearing inside PC23. Tyron and Lyza were amazed by their sudden arrival inside the cavern. Lyza could sense a diffuse telepathic signal from Rylla and she said, "They just appeared... from nowhere."

see Part 1 of
The Cythyrya Investigation.
Rylla explained, "We are inside a Simulation of Reality. We entered the Simulation from outside. I am Rylla and this is my friend Rey. We are investigating how humans made use of Phari technology here in this Reality."

Lyza rubbed her erect nipples with her finger tips and said, "No Simulation could be this detailed."

Rey sent some infites into Lyza and began the process of allowing Lyza to accept the existence of a Reality Simulation System that could make simulated people feel perfectly normal and unaware of the fact that they were part of a Simulation. Rey said, "We'll ask you not to worry about the fact that this is a simulation. We are here to learn and then we will depart." Rey placed one hand on Tyron's head and her other hand on the end of his erection and she told him, "I understand how you obtained negative mass hierions from a species of the Phari Network, the Vef-Yulir, but we recently visited Sogdian where Retz told us to come here and visit your laboratory. We want to know how you learned to use the Vef-Yulir like a hierion probe and how you were able to begin extracting femtozoans from human test subjects."

Tyron could telepathically sense that like Lyza, Rey was a powerful telepath. However, while he had some ability to receive telepathic signals, Rey's mind was opaque to him. He asked Rey, "Why should I tell you anything?"

Lyza moved close to Rey and placed both of her hands on Rey's head. She asked, "What are you? I sense a robot mind pattern, but also a human pattern... are you mimicking my mind pattern in order to link to me telepathically?"

Rey told Rylla, "There is something strange going on here. I..." She paused her probing of Tyron's memories and telepathically examined Lyza's mind. Rey announced, "She is another clone of Jheral Tinzy!"

Rylla nodded. "I suspected as much, just from her facial appearance, but look! She has four breasts, just like me." Rylla unzipped the top of her jumpsuit and showed Lyza her two rows of breasts.

Speaking to Rylla, Tyron commented, "And Lyza has two vaginas." He asked Rylla, "Do you?" Rey now had both of her hands on Tyron's erection. She formed synapex links to his nervous system and while sexually stimulating him, she examined the damage that had been done to his brain. That self-inflicted damage had turned him into a ruthless and obsessed man who had no compunction about working with Viole Falushe to make use of alien technology to develop human mind control techniques.

Then, another voice was heard, answering Tyron's question. "They are both from the future." What appeared to be a flashy redheaded woman came forward from the far side of the underground chamber. She added, "But sadly, poor Rylla was deprived of her allzaurish during her current mission on Earth."

Tyron asked the redhead, "Who are you and how did you get down here?"

"You can call me Irosh. I teleported myself into this chamber." Irosh stroked one of Lyza's cute lower breasts and commented, "I hope you found this body form and the sex hormones useful in captivating Tyron." Irosh turned to Rylla and noted, "And I see in your mind that you have used oxypathin to amplify your daughter's telepathic abilities."

Rylla held one of her lower breasts in her hand and said, "I've isolated and sequenced the oxypathin hormone. I'm trying to design even more potent activators of the oxypathin receptor that might alow amplification of human telepathic abilities."

Lyza (left), the secret agent
of Irosh the bumpha (right)
Irosh shook her head in wonder. "I suppose I should not be surprised that in the future, a few humans have been given access to Reality Simulation technology, but I have never viewed such a future Reality." For a moment, Irosh seemed to hesitate, then Irosh dissolved her clothing nanites and gave her torso the gaudy physical appearance of an Asterothrope female with four large breasts. For a moment she stroked and fondled her own erect nipples, then turned her attention back to the business at hand. Irosh explained, "It was I who provided Tyron with a Vef-Yulir and broke him free of the Bimanoid Interface. In the not too distant future, space elevator technology will be needed by the human settlers of Alastor Cluster. Now that negative mass hierions are known to humans and Tyron has built his anti-gravity machine, it is only a matter of time before space elevators will be constructed. I am satisfied."

Lyza reached out and stroked one of Irosh's big breasts. Lyza asked Irosh, "Can I now complete my mission?"

"Soon, my love." Irosh kissed one of Lyza's stiff nipples then explained, "I came here now because I hope Nyrtia will show herself. She must by now have viewed the future and be willing to concede the benefits of providing humans with space elevator technology."

Rey had continued to stroke Tyron's erection and now she was sucking on the hot glans of his penis. Tyron was quite desperate for an orgasm, but Rey seemed to be intentionally holding him just short of his sexual climax. He now reached out a hand and fondled Irosh's big top right breast and asked, "So are you ladies just going to display your beautiful bodies or is someone going to actually get laid?"

Irosh giggled and used her nanites to remove all the clothing from Tyron, Lyza, Rey and Rylla. She placed her hands on Tyron's big hot erection where Rey's hands were already expertly massaging the long hard shaft of his penis and said, "If a group orgasm trance is what it takes to get Nyrtia's attention, then I'm all for it."

Lyza commented, "There is serious penis shortage down here."

Irosh waved her hand and three of the alien Vef-Yulir appeared, one each right in front of Lyza, Rey and Rylla. These alien artificial life forms had been carefully programmed by Irosh. Now they instantly wrapped their furry appendages around the hips of the women and began stimulating their genitals. Rey abandoned her effort to understand Tyron's fractured brain circuits and now gave her full attention to the Vef-Yulir that had telepathically linked itself into her mind while sexually stimulating her genitals.

Irosh helped Tyron slide his erection into her vagina. Almost at once, with his penis inside the tight and silky vagina of Irosh, Tyron began to ejaculate. He found himself caught up in a telepathic mind space where the Nyk were making plans with Irosh for their escape from PC23. Vaguely, Tyron wondered what advanced technologies might be obtained from the Nyk.

After some initial revulsion, Rylla began to enjoy what her Vef-Yulir was doing to her: stimulating both the stiff glans of her clitoris and the wet walls of her vagina.

Now linked into a shared mind space with the others, Rylla was certain that Lyza was somehow related to Marda. She wondered: A clone? As her Vef-Yulir's expert attention to her clitoris quickly brought her to sweet sexual climax, Rylla entered into a shared orgasm trance and lost her capacity for normal rational thought.

With the Jehral femtozoan she was carrying, Rey felt her telepathic mind link not only to Lyza, but also Jym and Marda and... what? Another mind. Finally there was a name associated with the new mind pattern: Retya. Among all of the myriad of alien thoughts coming from the Vef-Yulir and the Kry, there were also images of cats and cat-like humanoids. Then Rey's mind pattern fully merged into the shared orgasm trance and she was lost to the intense sexual pleasure that Irosh had brought to everyone who was there inside PC23.

Later, after Tyron had dutifully and enthusiastically ejaculated into every available vagina there inside PC23, the lovers all laid there on the floor in a tangle of sweaty limbs. Tyron had finally collapsed and lay on his back and Lyza was riding his hot erection towards another orgasm. Rey and Rylla were playfully giving each other oral sex, but then Rey noticed that Irosh was gone. The Vef-Yulir were also gone, but not forgotten. Rey's vagina still tingled in a kind of after-sensation from the alien creature's amazing genital massage. Finally returning to normal consciousness, Rey popped both herself and Rylla out of the Asimov Reality Simulation and they landed back in the living room, on the floor behind where Eddy was at work on his computer. Hearing them land on the tile floor, he turned and gazed upon the naked bodies of Rey and Rylla. Rylla instantly got to her feet and went to find her daughter, Marda.

Rising to her feet, Rey covered herself with clothing nanites and told Eddy, "We met another bumpha... she calls herself Irosh."

Eddy had never heard of Irosh, but he was certain that there were bumpha in every Reality of Earth's Reality chain. He asked, "What did you learn about those femtozoans?"

Now Rey realized that during the orgy inside PC23, she had been stripped of the Jheral femtozoan. "Azynov inserted us into a Phari-built facility, deep under the surface of Myller's Planet. Irosh admitted to having provided Tyron Russ with the means to extract femtozoans from people and Retz was trained to re-program femtozoans on Myllyr's Planet." Still feeling a tingling sensation in her vagina from when the Vef-Yulir had been giving her sexual pleasure, Rey decided to leave out that part of the story.

"Amazing!" Eddy commented, "Even thousands of years later, humans of the Asimov Reality did not know how to program nanites."

Rey realized that Eddy would not stop asking questions until he knew everything. "Well, it was an artificial life-form called the Vef-Yulir that Irosh... well, I don't know how to describe it. Compelled? Programmed? It does not matter. Let's just say that the Vef-Yulir were a component of the Phari Network which the bumpha learned how to behaviorally program and control. Retz and Tyron knew nothing about nanite programming, but they got what they wanted from the Vef-Yulir, all provided by the bumpha. In my case, I got a mind altering orgasm."

Eddy laughed. "So, the mission to Myllyr's Planet was a success?"

Rey was thinking about the unusual telepathic Retya mind pattern that Rey had briefly felt during the group orgasm trance inside PC23 on Myllyr's Planet. She asked Eddy, "Do you know an alien species called the Felydyans?"

Eddy gave his head a shake. Just then, Zeta came into the living room with Tihri latched on to one of her breasts. "Welcome back, Rey." Zeta locked lips with Rey in a passionate kiss.

Eddy asked Zeta, "Do you know of the Felydyans?"

Zeta pulled her lips and tongue away from Rey and sat down in one of big easy chairs that was there in the living room and replied, "No. Are they part of the Phari Network?" Qyla the cat jumped up and laid down on an arm of the chair, close beside Tihri, who continued to nurse.

Now Rey realized what had happened to the Jheral femtozoan. Rylla muttered, "I did bring it back." Rey could now telepathically sense the Jheral femtozoan's mind pattern inside the cat!

Tihri (Tyhry) nanite programming.
Eddy asked, "Brought what?"

Rey moved to Qyla and scratched the cat's ears. "Qyla will make sure that Tihri knows about the Felydyans."

Zeta asked Rey, "What are you talking about?"

Rey had already turned to go find Anthony. She was still horny and convinced that Anthony could scratch the same itch that the Vef-Yulir had scratched in Rey's vagina. Heading off down the hallway, Rey muttered, "Tihri will understand, even if we can't." Rey knew that she had received information from the future, information that made no sense... yet.
