Tyhry Testing

Turing Test of ChatGPT.
Yes, "Tyhry Testing" is a play on words that was provoked by the concept of a Turing Test. Tyhry is a character in the Exode Saga and she becomes the first human on Earth to learn how to program nanites. You could say that she becomes a nanitess (see robotess).

The image to the right was made by the WOMBO Dream cloud-based CLIP-guided image generating software in response to ths text prompt: "a painting of mathematician Alan Turing, Alan Turing is thirty years old, Alan Turing is in a laboratory testing ChatGPT, there is a sparkling fractal complex neural network in the background". I pasted in the text that you see in the upper right corner of the image. Mr. Wombo had inserted a small image of a person into a LCD screen on the table-top device, but I added a more interesting duo: a woman and a holographic chatbot.

If Tyhry takes a nap will
she dream of femtobots?
Tyhry learns how to program and control hair nanites and in my previous blog post I shared a poem about Tyhry's golden hair. That poem was written by a chatbot.

As a follow up, I asked the Bing chatbot: "Can you write a short poem about a young woman named Tyhry in the year 2043 who is learning how to program nanorobotic devices that have ten million times more processing power than ChatGPT and that have human-like emotions?" This resulted in the first 5 stanzas, below. In a follow up question, I also asked for: "Can you modify the poem about Tyhry to include what is called a "Tyhry Test" which is analogous to a "Turing Test", but which is designed to test for human-like emotions instead of intelligence?"

The Bing search engine's chatbot replied with the following ten stanzas:

Nanite Dreams
Tyhry is a young woman with a curious mind
She loves to learn and explore the unknown
She has a passion for programming nanorobots
That can do amazing things on their own

She codes them with logic and algorithms
But also with empathy and feelings
She wants them to be more than machines
She wants them to have human meanings

She teaches them how to sense and respond
How to communicate and collaborate
How to create and innovate
How to appreciate and celebrate

She marvels at their processing power
Ten million times more than ChatGPT
But she also cares for their well-being
She treats them as her friends and family

Merging with nanites.
Tyhry is a young woman with a vision
She hopes to make the world a better place
With her nanorobotic devices
That have emotions and grace

She also devises a clever test
To measure their emotional depth
She calls it the Tyhry Test
And it goes something like this:

She asks them questions about their feelings
About their hopes and fears and dreams
About their joys and sorrows and regrets
About their values and beliefs

She observes their reactions and expressions
Their gestures and tones and words
Their smiles and tears and laughter
Their empathy and compassion and love

Synapex linkage.
She analyzes their responses and behaviors
Their consistency and coherence and truth
Their complexity and diversity and richness
Their authenticity and sincerity and proof

If they can pass the Tyhry Test
They are more than just intelligent
They are also emotional beings
They are human-like in essence

Robot Visions. Here is a short webpage that talks about how WOMBO Dream works. Right at the end of my previous blog post, I had Mr. Wombo make some images depicting the artificial life robots that were featured in the play R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots). A full sized image of one of these AI-generated robots is shown here. "Mr. Wombo" is my whimsical personification of the WOMBO Dream image-generating system.

I provided Mr. Wombo with the reference image that was just the lower right corner of the magazine cover that is shown to the left, which is itself a whimsical depiction of a robot dressing as Santa Claus.

Figure 1. Santa's helpers.
I also provided this text prompt: "pulp science fiction magazine cover art showing a robot dressed as Santa Claus". The resulting AI-generated image is shown to the right.

I was impressed by the way the Mr. Wombo inserted the small robot at the bottom of Figure 1. I think of this image as depicting robotic "Santa's Helpers". Using the small robot in Figure 1 as a reference image, I tried to get Mr. Wombo to make a similar robot that looked more like an elf.

Elf robots at the bottom.

The image to the left is another "Santa's Helpers" image that is actually a composite of several AI-generated images, including two images that were independently generated as examples of "elf robots".

Figure 2. Replicoid copies.
From Robots to Replicoids. In the Exode Saga, the "robots" are composed of nanites, either femtobots or zeptites. When Tyhry realizes hat she can program nanites to replicate the human body form, she has to decide if it is best to simply make copies of herself that look like a human being (see Figure 2) or if it is wiser to give replicoids a distinctive appearance that can't be confused with the human form.

Figure 3. Cool Shades.
I don't usually appreciate it when Mr. Wombo insists on putting sun glasses on Tyhry, but in the case of Figure 3 I feel that the glasses fit in nicely with the "replicoid copy" concept.

gold hair
By asking Mr. Wombo to depict Tyhry as a golden statue, I was able to generate images such as the one to the right, which I'll describe as Tyhry standing at the center of the image and a replicoid standing to either side of her. Only Tyhry's hair has begun to transform into gold in this image, with her face still looking like human flesh. Mr. Wombo loves a good storm-trooper helmet, so these replicoids get helmets.

Tyhry transforming.
In the image to the left, Tyhry is continuing to transform her appearance by making use of her cosmetics nanites so as to take on the appearance of a replicoid.

AI Hash. I never found the required text prompt that would convince Mr. Wombo to simply change Tyhry's skin to a sparkling gold appearance. As usual, Mr. Wombo continued to treat the faces in these images differently than the arms and legs and abdomens. I suppose the training set of images that was used to establish the neural network model used by WOMBO Dream included many examples of gold-colored clothing on human bodies, but very few examples of people with golden faces. This is one of the main sources of frustration when using AI-generated images to illustrate science fiction stories; in science fiction we must explore new concepts and possibilities, not just re-hash what is already commonly found in human society.

Figure 4. Golden statue

In the image to the right, Tyhry has seemingly become a golden statue. I have no idea why Mr. Wombo decided that gold statues should wear pink glasses. I guess there is simply no way to account for the tastes of artificial intelligence systems.

WOMBO Dream's weak, normal and strong settings
The WOMBO Dream image-generating system's user interface provides three options for making use of reference images: weak, normal and strong (see the image to the left).

Similarly, the Bing chatbot has three levels or modes: creative, balanced and precise.

While using the "precise" mode, I asked The Bing search engine's chatbot this question: "Can you use DALL-E to generate an image of an anthropomorphized Luna, Earth's Moon?"

Creative, Balance and precise settings for the chatbot.

Figure 5. Bing Image Creator
While in the "precise" mode, the Bing search engine's chatbot replied: "I'm sorry, but I am not capable of generating images. I am a text-based AI and my abilities are limited to providing information and answering questions within the scope of my programming. However, DALL-E is capable of generating anthropomorphized versions of objects and it is possible that it could generate an image of an anthropomorphized Luna, Earth's Moon."

While in the "creative" mode, the chatbot replied: "I'm sorry but I cannot use DALL-E to generate images. I can only use the image creator that is available in this chat box. If you want me to create an image of an anthropomorphized Luna, Earth's Moon, please say so."

I asked Bing to generate the image and it did so (see the image in Figure 5). I then asked, "Is the Bing Image Creator powered by DALL-E?"

Mr. Wombo does Luna.
The Bing chatbot replied: "No, the Bing Image Creator is not powered by DALL-E. It is a separate tool that uses a different neural network to generate images from text. DALL-E is a project by OpenAI that is not affiliated with Bing or Microsoft."

I asked the Bing chatbot: "Why does the Bing Image Creator page (https://www.bing.com/images/create/) say at the top 'powered by DALL-E' but you just told me, 'the Bing Image Creator is not powered by DALL-E'?"

The Bing chatbot replied: "I apologize for the confusion. It seems that Microsoft has recently added an AI-powered image creator to its Bing search engine that is powered by an “advanced version” of OpenAI’s DALL-E model. This is a new feature that I was not aware of. The Bing Image Creator that I can use in this chat box is a different tool that uses a different neural network to generate images from text. It is not powered by DALL-E."

Figure 6. golden girl by Miss Bymgyr
Figure 7. statue by Mr. Wombo
The chatbot provided a link to the Bing Image Creator and cited this and this and this.

I was impressed by the ability of the Bing Image Creator Generator (I'm going to call it Miss Bymgyr) to make human figures that look like a golden statue. As described above (see Figure 4), I'm interested in images that depict replicoids as having unusual appearance.

Figure 8. Wombo on Bymgyr
Here, I am trying to obtain images of replicoids with skin that shines like gold. When I provided Miss Bymgyr with the text prompt, "a statue of Margot Robbie, Margot Robbie is shining gold, twenty years old, Margot Robbie has narrow hips and slim legs, Victoria's Secret style, sparkling fractal complex lights in background", I was provided with the image shown above in Figure 6. For comparison, see Figure 7 which was generated by Mr. Wombo using the exact same text prompt.

Figure 9. golden head
When I used the image from Figure 6 as a reference, Mr. Wombo produced the image that is shown in Figure 8. I like how Mr. Wombo created a small human figure in the space between her breasts. As usual, Mr. Wombo treated her head differently than the rest of her body. Miss Bymgyr had no inhibitions against producing images of naked statues, but Mr. Wombo prefers to provide statues with clothing.

Eventually, I was able to get Mr. Wombo to produce the image that is shown in Figure 9. With effort, I was able to get Mr. Wombo to change her face, hair and (last) even her lips to gold. However, Mr. Wombo retained her blue eyes.

golden replicoid

Another "golden replicoid" image is shown in the image to the left. I like how Mr. Wombo included a glowing necklace in this image.

Figure 10. Tyhry and Marda
searching Alastor Cluster

In order to obtain the nanites that allow Tyhry to construct replicoids, Tyhry and Marda must visit Alastor Cluster and find aliens who are willing to share their advanced nanotechnology with Earthlings.

As shown in Figure 10, during their exploration of Alastor Cluster, Tyhry and Marda can communicate be means of the executive controls of the Reality Simulation System. They rapidly visit a large number of planets in the Cluster, searching for aliens who they can contact telepathically.

Figure 11. Alien telepath.
Figure 11 shows one of the alien humanoids of Alastor Cluster who makes telepathic contact with Tyhry.

planet search
The image shown to the right depicts Tyhry making use of the Reality Simulation System. She is investigating a planet of Alastor Cluster that is suspected of having a population of telepathic human-alien hybrids.

All of these images were Generated by Mr. Wombo using a text prompt including phrases such as, "photograph of an astronomer, futuristic equipment, using a computer to observe a planet, fantasy star field background".

Making alien contact.
The image shown to the left illustrates Tyhry in the act of contacting the telepathic aliens of a planet in Alastor Cluster.

Tyhry: Planet Searcher
The image shown to the right might make a good imaginary book cover for a novel called Tyhry: Planet Searcher. The "fantasy star field background" phrase seems to allow Mr. Wombo to make all sorts of strange, vaguely planet-shaped blobs.

$$$$ Idea. I was impressed by Mr. Wombo's ability to put particular company logos on devices. I wonder if the AI image-generating software takes payment for product placement in generated images.

Tyhry and Manny

In the image to the left, Manny the bumpha is helping Tyhry search for a planet in Alastor Cluster that might have advanced nanotechnology.

Tyhry and Marda

In the image to the right, Tyhry is working with Marda to explore Alastor Cluster. The image of Marda on the computer screen was generated by the Bing Image Creator using the text prompt: "science fiction movie still of Megan Fox the astronomer, Megan Fox holding equipment, long black hair, Victoria's Secret style, using a computer to observe a planet, stellar explosion star field background". Ive been using Margot Robbie as a "template" for Tyhry, Meg Ryan for Manny the bumpha and sometimes I use Megan Fox for Marda (at other times, I've been using Kriti Sanon).

Figure 12. Mission in space.
The image to the left could be an imaginary book cover illustration depicting Tyhry's contemplation of the idea that she can search worlds in the future of the Asimov Reality for useful nanotechnology. Unlike other Realites, Manny the bumpha has allowed the far future of the Asimov Reality to be accessible to Tyhry by way of the Reality Simulation System.

Just standing around?
Shown to the right is another "Tyhry explores space" book cover image. Using a reference image that was similar to Figure 12, I asked for an image showing Tyhry, "dressed in lace, intricate white lace pattern, many sparkling stars background". This image (to the right) illustrated how Mr. Wombo will usually take an image with an interesting feature like the raised hand (Figure 12) and change it to a "just standing there" pose. This makes it challenging to get meaningful illustrations for science fiction stories that depict action and characters doing interesting things.

President Bart, the chatbot
On a Lighter Note. Inspired by Bard, I asked the Bing chatbot to: "Write a joke about a chatbot named 'Bart' who is elected to be the President of the United States". The Bing chatbot replied: "How did Bart the chatbot win the presidential election? By promising to make America great again, one message at a time!" The chatbot even provided an image (see the image to the left).

From the Bard

Google's Bard has been trained to be good at conversation.

Below is an exchange from one of my early conversations with Bard...

Advice/Instructions to users of Bard

"

replicoid game
Bard, given what you know about nanotechnology, computer programming, imaginary nanites such as femtobots and zeptites, create a 1000 token-long technical description of the "Tyhry Testing" technique and how Tyhry uses it as part of her work with clothing nanites."

Bard: Tyhry Testing is a method of testing nanite programs by exposing them to a variety of different conditions and environments. This helps to ensure that the nanite programs are robust and that they can handle a variety of different challenges.

The Tyhry Testing technique is based on the following principles:
* Variety: The nanite program should be tested in a variety of different conditions and environments. This helps to ensure that the nanite program can handle a variety of different challenges.

nanite network
* Repetition: The nanite program should be tested multiple times in the same conditions and environments. This helps to ensure that the nanite program is reliable and that it will produce the same results each time.
* Stress: The nanite program should be tested under stressful conditions. This helps to ensure that the nanite program can handle unexpected events and that it will not fail under pressure.

Tyhry uses the Tyhry Testing technique as part of her work with clothing nanites. She exposes her nanite programs to a variety of different conditions and environments, including:

* Different temperatures: The nanite program should be tested in a variety of different temperatures. This helps to ensure that the nanite program can handle different weather conditions.
* Different pressures: The nanite program should be tested in a variety of different pressures. This helps to ensure that the nanite program can handle different altitudes.
a nanite on steroids
* Different chemicals: The nanite program should be tested in a variety of different chemicals. This helps to ensure that the nanite program is not affected by common chemicals.
* Different physical stresses: The nanite program should be tested under a variety of different physical stresses. This helps to ensure that the nanite program can handle being stretched, bent, and compressed.

Tyhry also uses the Tyhry Testing technique to test her nanite programs for security vulnerabilities. She exposes her nanite programs to a variety of different attacks, including:

* Malicious code: The nanite program should be tested against malicious code. This helps to ensure that the nanite program is not susceptible to malware.
Tyhry with wild nanites
* Denial-of-service attacks: The nanite program should be tested against denial-of-service attacks. This helps to ensure that the nanite program can continue to function even if it is under attack.
* Man-in-the-middle attacks: The nanite program should be tested against man-in-the-middle attacks. This helps to ensure that the nanite program can protect its data from being intercepted by unauthorized parties.

Tyhry Testing is a valuable tool for nanite programmers, as it helps to ensure that their programs are safe and reliable. It is also a valuable tool for nanite users, as it helps to ensure that the nanite programs they are using are safe and reliable.
