This blog page (below) has Part 13 of my Decade in Review (DiR, see Part 1). The blog posts in this series have titles that contain unusual characters. This blog post is called "Rȩplicōids Ɵn Ȩdgǝ" (Replicoids on Edge) because in 2023 I wrote a science fiction story called City on the Edge of Tomorrow which depicted Tyhry as having many femtobot replicoid copies that had been made by the Reality Simulation System.

In this Decade in Review (DiR) I am exploring AI-generated images as alternative illustrations for my old science fiction stories. I'm using software such as WhiskWOMBO Dream, and Leonardo to generate updated story illustrations. An example of an AI-generated image is shown above in Figure 6a, for which Mr. Wombo (my 'pet' name for WOMBO Dream) generated an image depicting infites (information nanites) that can insert information into human brains.

The image to the left shows another image that was generated by WOMBO Dream that I imagine is Tyhry working with some programmable nanites that are held inside a hierion confinement field. Here on this blog page, I'm continuing to number the new AI-generated images as numbered in Part 12 of this Decade in Review (DiR).

AI Story Time. After completing The Hua Nanites, I got seriously involved with exploring Large Language Model chatbots and AI-generated images as science fiction story illustrations. At the start of The Hua Nanites, it is mentioned that Tyhry and Marda are planning a vacation inside the Asimov Reality Simulation. On April 2, 2023 I published a blog post titled "Story time with Bard" in which I tried to get help from Bard (now known as Gemini) to write a science fiction story about an attempt by Tyhry to obtain programmable nanites from inside the Asimov Reality Simulation, what would eventually become a story called The Femtobot Smuggler. Bard had a very limited memory at that time.

Then, in an April 16, 2023 blog post titled "Story writing with ChatGPT" I experimented with a second chatbot for help in science fiction story writing. In addition to a small context window, ChatGPT struggled to remember basic facts about characters such as the idea that Manny the bumpha is a "she", even though I specified that fact in the story information that I provided.

In The Femtobot Smuggler, Tyhry hopes to obtain programmable hair nanites from aliens on the planet Threy. ChatGPT suggested that Manny is a "holographic projection of a deceased person's mind", which seemed like an AI hallucination.

Given the limited context windows for LLMs in 2023, I began making use of the chatbots for limited tasks such as inventing names for characters in my stories.

The first chapter of a new science fiction story called City on the Edge of Tomorrow appeared in a June 7, 2023 blog post titled "The Tyhry Clones". I had previously introduced the idea of Tyhry using the Reality Simulation System to make multiple copies of herself (see The Hua Nanites, above). For City on the Edge of Tomorrow I depicted events in the days just before the events of The Femtobot Smuggler.

For the image shown in Figure 8b, I asked Whisk to include "half dozen other blond women" in the background. By my count, Whisk included about two dozen copies of Tyhry.

City on the Edge of Tomorrow
In Part 1 of City on the Edge of Tomorrow, Marda and Rylla arrive in Arizona and Rylla is under the influence of Klox23, a potent sex hormone variant of oxypathin which Rylla has recently crafted in her polypeptide research laboratory. With Klox23 in her body, Rylla has has an intense clitoral erection for the past day and the glans of her clitoris has swollen to extraordinary size. This fits right in with Zeta's plans to take Rylla dancing at the "Futurescape" night club. Zeta thinks that Rylla has been working too much and Zeta hopes to find Rylla an exciting new sex partner at the club.

In Part 2 of City on the Edge of Tomorrow, Tyhry hints to Marda about an exciting new result she has achieved in her experimentation with nanites. Manny the bumpha has been training Tyhry as Earth's first nanite programmer. Tyhry has already mastered the use of hair nanites, feeding nanites and anti-gravity nanites that contain negative mass hierions.

Naseh and Wydgren
Tyhry reveals to Marda that Tyhry also can deploy "hacking nanites". Tyhry has gained access to Rylla's laboratory notes and is aware that Rylla is working on an inhibitor of the oxypathin peptidase, which Tyhry refers to as "the secret of human telepathy."

At the Futurescape, Tyhry introduces Marda to Naseh, Tynyo (Ty) and Ty's father, Lahs. Tyhry has used her nanites to steal some Klox23 from Rylla. Tyhry doses Naseh with Klox23 and Naseh is soon under the influence of the potent sex hormone.

In Part 3 of City on the Edge of Tomorrow, the action shifts to the Ekcolir Reality and a science fiction story teller named Wydgren Förbyndel. In the Ekcolir Reality, Wydgren is a leader of the anti-fru movement, but she suffers from the effects of a terrible microbial infection. Her susceptibility to the infection is related to her large number of Ek'col genes.

In preparation for the coming Final Reality, Grean the Kac'hin must test a set of medical nanites that will allow Wydgren's analogue in the Final Reality to fulfill her important role. Manny the bumpha arrives, disguised as Delpha the Kac'hin and goes to Earth to test the medical nanites.

The events in Part 4 of City on the Edge of Tomorrow are a 'flash back' to when Tyhry first meets Naseh and Tyhry arranges for their two families to meet at the Futurescape. Naseh moved to Arizona as part of her search for Eddy. One of the reasons for this Decade in Review (DiR) is to identify science fiction stories that I never completed. On June 23rd 2023 I wrote most of Part 5 of City on the Edge of Tomorrow in a never-published blog post called "Syn Time". However, before I could finish City on the Edge of Tomorrow, I got distracted and began thinking about City on the Edge of Tomorrow, I began planing a new science fiction story that would involve a character named Mosy

Plans for continuing City on the Edge of Tomorrow in 2024 were included in a December 2023 blog post called "Edgy". City on the Edge of Tomorrow included the idea that Tyhry and Marda were just a few days away from their vacation inside the Asimov Reality and I was having trouble imagining how the events of City on the Edge of Tomorrow would seamlessly merge into the plot for the story that would become The Femtobot Smuggler.

The Temporal Agents.
Juggling Story Ideas. A major plot element in City on the Edge of Tomorrow is Rylla's development of the sex hormone Klox23. Right at the start of 2024, I was working on a story fragment that I placed in a never published blog post titled "Rylla RNA". Set in the time when bot Rey and Anthony were living in the home of Eddy and Zeta, "Rylla RNA" depicted Rylla as developing "synaptic RNA" in the hopes of boosting the abilities of telepaths. In that story, an accident with synaptic RNA causes Rylla to loose all of her telepathic powers. Can I find a way to complete City on the Edge of Tomorrow that includes this plot element of synaptic RNA?

Asimov in 2046.
One other never-published blog post from 2024 was "Wydgren Meets Wydgren". I had been planning that as part of City on the Edge of Tomorrow, Tyhry and Marda would go in search of their own analogues inside the Ekcolir Reality.  "Wydgren Meets Wydgren" was based on the idea that the mother of Naseh, Wydgren, would go with Tyhry and Marda into the Ekcolir Reality Simulation and that Wydgren would meet her own analogue in that Reality. Also at the end of 2024 was commentary on "The Lahs Experiment", which included the idea of Tyhry having the ability to use infites that manipulate synaptic RNA, giving Tyhry the ability to implant false memories into the minds of Zeta and Rylla. This technological ability of Tyhry to control minds was a plot device that would allow Zeta and Rylla to be distracted from what they had learned about Lahs and his family, allowing Tyhry's family to move on to a new adventure on the planet Threy.

Time Nexus (image source)
Another distraction from the task of completing City on the Edge of Tomorrow was the arrival of a new science fiction story called "The Asimov-Sagan Time Nexus", set in an alternate timeline for Earth  in which Isaac Asimov is taken into the future to have heart surgery and then returned to the year 1981.

In Part 2 of The Asimov-Sagan Time Nexus, I got quite silly and ended up inserting "meta-commentary" about the story into the text of the story (this was due to my use of a chatbot to help compose the story), but as the plot limps along, the 'new and surgically improved' Asimov becomes involved with Carl Sagan and efforts to send a man to Mars.

Isaac and Carl in the 21st century.
Alternate Timeline. In Part 3 of The Asimov-Sagan Time Nexus, President Clinton has called Isaac Asimov and Carl Sagan to the White House. Clinton has just made the goal of putting astronauts on Mars by 2015 a national priority. Isaac, Janet, Carl Sagan, his wife Anny and Anya Penmewly (the Interventionist doctor from the future who performed Isaac's heart surgery) discuss the future.

In Part 4 of The Asimov-Sagan Time Nexus, Anya visits a secret Time Service facility that is equipped with advanced technology which will allow Anya to devise a medical treatment that extends the life of Carl Sagan, just long enough for him to become the first man on Mars.

In Part 5 of The Asimov-Sagan Time Nexus, a terminally ill Carl Sagan becomes the first man to live -and die- on Mars.

Tara (image source)

In a blog post dated August 19, 2023 and titled "Tara of Eland" there is Part 1 of a science fiction story called the Mosy Saga. The story begins about 5,000 years ago when a young Earth woman (named Tara) became aware of how the events of Mosy's life could be altered so as to put an end to the Ekcolir Reality.

Tara, a member of the tribe of El, has large numbers of Ek'col genes and she has the ability to obtain information about the future by way of the Sedron Time Stream. In a vision of the future, Tara sees that she must move from her homeland of Eland to the southerly region of Norsun. As a trained Ta, Tara can use her telepathic mind to perceive nanites.

Tara and Potina
Tara has grown up on Earth as part of an Interventionist mission that secretly deploys nanotechnology on Earth. For example, her horse is a femtobot replicoid that alter its physical form by rearranging its nanite components.

Tara lives in a "disposable reality" where nobody makes much of an effort to enforce the Rules of Intervention. Trysta (Ta) is casually mentioned in the Mosy Saga as having long ago told of the importance of Norsun. Trysta long ago provided the people of Eland with workers who are known as the Rep. In biblical style, Tara weds her brother (Zule) and arranges for Zule's lover, Potina to be Zule's second wife.

Tara's vision of the future.
Her daughters
Atarte, Quel and Triq.
In Part 2 of the Mosy Saga, Tara is already aware of many parts of the future, both in Norsun and later, in Egypt. Tara knows that she will eventually know Mosy, but that will be a thousand years in her future.

In Part 3 of the Mosy Saga, when Tara, Potina and Zule arrive at their new home in Norsun, they assume roles in the local society that have already been played by Rep who used the physical form of Tara, Potina and Zule. The Rep are tasked with carefully nurturing the humans such as Tara, Potina and Zule who carry large numbers of Ek'col and Kac'hin gene patterns. Disease has eliminated most of the native population of Norsum and now the descendants of Tara, Potina and Zule will grow in number and re-populate Norsum. Developmental control nanites will allow the people of Norsun to appear to be normal humans.

Tara and Caz in
the Garden of Eland.
Tara meets Caz, a replicoid remnant of the "first Tara", a woman who had lived long ago on Earth and who was subsequently clones to produce Tara. Norsun is a training facility for Tara and Caz explains, "First and foremost, it is important that you learn the mind pattern of Mosy." By means of time travel, a copy of Mosy has been brought to Norsun and so Tara can begin to learn the Mosy mind pattern. Caz explains to Tara that synapex linkages to the time traveling copy of Mosy will allow Tara to fully learn the Mosy mind pattern.

Programming nanites for Norsun.
Caz has seen the future and tells Tara about her clone who in the future will meet the original Mosy: "With the help of your sophisticated telepathic powers, you will make Mosy fall in love with your clone and he will gladly circumcise himself in order to have you... um, your clone, as his bride. In that way you (and your clone) will be positioned not only for plenty of hot sex with Mosy, but you (and your clone) will be able to alter the course of his life, causing a change in the historical timeline of Earth. In that way, you will play an important role in the great plan for bringing into existence a new and better Reality."

Symyn and Qyp
Caz also explains how Tara's life will be extended by medical nanites, but eventually Tara will be instantiated as a femtobot replicoid in Eternity.

In Part 4 of the Mosy Saga, the story shifts to the planet Tar'tron in the Galactic Core where Zule, Potina and Tara used the names Qyp, Symyn and Thylon while being prepared for their mission on Earth. Part 4 was placed in a blog post titled "Potina on Tar'tron" and Chapter 4 was called "Recruiting Qyp" as part of an effort to explain why sending another Ek'col to Earth was a necessary part of the Mosy intervention.

Systolina
The Mosy Saga is a story from 2023 that I have never completed. Possibly there is a path to completion of he Mosy Saga by way of my 2024 story Vythoth the Chresmoscopist, which features a religious robot on Threy named Nymerya Coryn. In 2024 I developed the tentative idea that there was a link between Mosy and Nymerya Coryn, but I have not yet found a way to solidify that possibility.

Time police (image source).
Right at the end of 2023 I wrote a fun short story called "The Return of Zat". "The Return of Zat" is a kind of sequel story for "The Lost Machine" by John Wyndham was first published in the April 1932 issue of Amazing Stories. "The Return of Zat" begins on Mars, seven million years in our future, when Mars is part of the Holy star system, the sacred origin of galactic civilization. Mars is protected by Time Police and nobody wants to risk disturbing the ancient history of Earth.

However, Earth is now a ball of ice. Banuff and Zat are sent into the past. Do they manage to save Earth from being turned into a snowball Earth? Or does Banuff's mission in the past cause snowball Earth?

Time Portal. As mentioned earlier in this Decade in Review (see Part 8), I began a science fiction story called Time Portal in 2021. I finally got around to writing Part 2 of in 2023. In Part 1 of Time Portal (September 2021), professor Twissell and his student Patty Bekom make use of clues from the past to create a functioning time portal that open into the past. A crucial mathematical clue is found by Patty in her grandmother Francesca's diary... written in 1937.

In order to investigate how much Patty's grandmother knew about the mathematical theory of temporal dimensions, Dr. Twissell passes through the time portal and travels into the past. Patty describes the 11 equations that correctly summarize the 11 spatio-temporal dimensions as, "Francesca's temporal quadraine".

2023. In Chapter 2 of Time Portal, Twissell arrives in 1918 and hopes to meet Francesca Maurolico. The only hope Twissell has of returning to the future is the possibility that Francesca understands the "polarity problem" and how to open a time portal to the future. While waiting for Francesca to arrive in Perth, Twissell uses the University library to discover that there had been another Francesca Maurolico who died in 1650, an obscure mathematician known for her book of prophecies. Patty's grandmother arrives in Perth in the year 1922 and becomes Twissell's research student.

2024. Chapter 3 of Time Portal appeared in a January 9, 2024 blog post called "Senquon". The senquon is the type of sedron that makes possible travel through time via the time portal, but some humans, like Francesca, can become aware of events in past or future times by functioning as receivers for information that is transmitted by senquons that move through the Sedron Time Stream. Twissell has a vision of 1545 and wonders if Francesca will travel back in time.

In Chapter 4 of Time Portal, Nyrtia reveals herself to Francesca and explains that she is moving Twissell through time as a way to spread important Asterothrope gene patterns though the population of humans on Earth.
